Jules walks off stage feeling like she’s got neon lights buzzing inside her instead of blood and veins. She spoke eloquently, and people laughed at the jokes, and she couldn’t get to everyone at question time because so many people had their hands up. James McCarthy had even asked her a question. Her confidence is at an all-time high.

Cameron’s waiting for her outside the hall, leaning against the wall opposite the exit door. He smiles at her and Jules’s heart does a little flip inside her chest. She doesn’t even think before crossing the corridor and leaning against him, kissing him with all that dizzy energy inside her body.

She pulls back after a few moments, breath heavy and skin buzzing.

‘Sorry. I had the urge.’ She drops her hand off his shoulder, realising this is the most overtly couple-y they’ve been in public at the conference. And that they’re not a couple, despite her recent clarity that she thinks they could be. That she wants them to be.

‘Hey, don’t apologise for that.’ Cameron grabs the hand she dropped. ‘I like it. Kiss me any time.’

‘In that case.’ Jules leans up again and kisses him without restraint. Who knew public speaking could be such an aphrodisiac? Or maybe it’s the fact that Cameron came to watch her even though it’s outside his field, that he waited for her after the talk, after he already helped her this morning on it and they hadn’t done anything sexual. Pure boyfriend stuff, as Cat pointed out. Another big tick in the ‘do we have couple potential’ column.

Though with all the energy running through her right now, the only thing she can think about is taking things to the bedroom for some more of the ‘is this only a fling’ column.

‘I think you’re glowing,’ Cameron says when they part for air. ‘Pleased with how your presentation went?

‘I am.’ Her skin is hot but every moment of contact with Cameron makes that less about the presentation and more about him.

‘You smashed it. And you didn’t even need to include any baby pics.’

Jules laughs, remembering back to their car ride over and his joking suggestion to include pictures of Samantha’s baby in her talk. She can’t stop touching him, rubbing her hands up and down his arms, feeling the muscles beneath his shirt.

‘Also.’ Cameron grips her hips lightly and leans in to speak low against her ear. ‘You were very sexy up there.’

Jules shivers, anticipation unravelling like a fern inside her. ‘Oh, was I?’

‘Mm-hm. If you weren’t so engaging, I probably would have spent the entire time picturing you in your underwear.’

Jules laughs breathily, angling her head so she can stare into his caramel eyes. ‘That’s the opposite of how that trick’s meant to work.’

‘I know. And like I said, I got too caught up in the presentation for it anyway. Besides.’ He drags his hands slowly up her arms. ‘I quite like you in a pencil skirt.’

‘You know what a pencil skirt is?’

‘Chloe’s my sister. I also know that this is a Peter Pan collar,’ he touches the hem of her shirt, ‘that the colour is teal, and that this whole outfit would look fantastic on the floor of my hotel room.’

Jules’s mouth pops open. ‘I can’t believe you just used that line.’

Cameron laughs and she feels the vibrations against her body where they’re pressed together. Her nipples stand at attention.

‘I feel like it’s working though. Want to prove me right?’

Jules narrows her eyes at him. She’d love to say no, just to tease him, but it’s like that first night all over again. She’s too horny to even try.

Jules starfishes out on Cameron’s bed, head down at the bottom end, feeling the sweat on her body slowly cooling.

‘Does that count as an afternoon delight?’ she asks.

Cameron starts singing at her and Jules flops her left arm over his face. It’s not the sexiest move, but she’s exhausted from some very athletic sex.

‘Nothing against your singing voice, but I do not want that song stuck in my head.’

Cameron starts humming it instead, so Jules rolls onto her front and tickles Cameron’s side.

‘Woah, hey.’ He twitches away from her, grabbing her hands and pinning them between his body and the bed. ‘No tickling.’

‘No humming or singing that song.’
