‘If I did, you wouldn’t be seeing them without some begging.’

Cameron leans over the table. Jules doesn’t lean back and they’re close enough he can feel it on his face when she exhales. He’s torturing himself with her proximity. ‘I can beg. I’ll happily go to my knees for you.’

He makes sure his voice is nice and deep for the line, and Jules shivering is the payoff.

Her skin flushes pink and her eyes drop to his lips. ‘Naughty.’

‘I play to my strengths.’

He would’ve begged her for forgiveness earlier if that’s what it would take. And hell if that isn’t telling of how much he likes being with Jules.

Braden’s voice swims in his head, a hazy memory of a lascivious compliment she once gave, but he distracts himself from both previous thoughts by slotting his knee between Jules’s legs beneath the table and pushing them apart slightly.

Jules bites her lip and Cameron’s blood pumps thick through his veins. She’s not opposed to some semi-public sex, but slipping his hand up her thigh to brush against her underwear may be too forward.

The server drops off their food, cutting through the sexual tension and his ill-thought-out desire. Jules takes a long drink of water while Cameron divvies up food evenly onto their plates.

‘Okay. Your turn,’ she says. ‘Song and album.’

‘Song, ‘Good Vibrations’.’

Jules laughs, pulling her plate toward her. ‘The Beach Boys?’

He shrugs. ‘What can I say? It gives me good vibrations.’

Jules rolls her eyes. ‘Okay. It’s kinda catchy. And album?’

‘The B-52s.’

‘You had that answer ready to go.’ She shovels a mouthful of curry and rice onto her fork. ‘Hey. Are you into trivia?’

‘Very. My family used to do a monthly trivia competition. We’re all incredibly competitive. Incredibly.’

Jules’s eyes light up and her knees lock around his beneath the table, sending heat straight to his dick. ‘Do you know The Blue Alcott?’

‘Uh, you mean the pub back in Canberra?’

‘Yeah. They do a trivia night on Thursdays. I go with some people from work.’ She reaches a hand across the table and squeezes his wrist. More blood rushes south. If the table were shallow enough for him to slide his leg between hers until he could press his knee to her heat, he would.

‘You should come along,’ Jules continues, oblivious to his salacious thoughts. ‘I’m the only muso in the group, but I don’t know everything. It’d be good having you there. I know Zoe from marketing is there most weeks.’

The five-foot nothing Jewish woman has invited Cameron every week since he’s been at Infinity. Maybe he’ll say yes next time. Jules will be there and he does love trivia. Should help with the loneliness too. If he decides to stay in Canberra.

Ignoring the thought, he twists his hand so their fingers link and gently squeezes her hand. ‘I’ll think about it.’

Jules returns the squeeze then slips her hand from his to resume eating dinner.

‘Can I come back to something?’ she asks.

‘Not if you’re going to mock the Beach Boys again.’

She scoffs. ‘Have you heard their Christmas album? There’s a lot to mock.’

‘You don’t include Christmas albums as part of a band’s true discography. Everyone knows that.’

‘Oh, do they?’

‘All the cool people.’
