They might be angry with him at first, but Jackson knew this was for the best. Either they would tell him right away that they only wanted him for a few nights of fun or that they were going to be exclusive and last night was one final hooray. Jackson had never seen two men more perfect for each other and it had to be enough that he’d gotten to witness the relationship start. Finn would give Michael everything he wanted, and Michael would care for Finn in ways the older Marine didn’t know he needed.

The two of them would be fine and if Jackson stayed, they wouldn’t be able to really invest in their relationship like they should. He was doing them a favor by leaving. Yes, he should probably say goodbye, but Jackson wasn’t strong enough. It was obvious that Michael at least had feelings for him, but Jackson needed to let Finn take care of Michael.

Jackson took one last look around him. The motel was on the very edge of town far away from the University and the higher-class neighborhoods. He couldn’t actually see any of his friends’ homes or Finn’s club, but Jackson still stood there long enough to say a silent goodbye.

Forcing himself to turn around, Jackson threw his leg over his new bike and started it up. The engine purred and the vibration under his ass reminded him that he’d had a huge solid dick in his ass the night before. This wouldn’t be the most comfortable ride, but Jackson couldn’t put off leaving. Staying in town one more day—hell, one more hour—and he’d been tempted to track Finn and Michael down.

He revved the engine just to hear his new toy roar when a large black SUV flew into the parking lot of the motel and screeched to stop in front of him.

Jackson frowned.

What the fuck was Skinner doing?

Jackson stayed on the bike but turned off the engine as Skinner exited the SUV and slammed the door. Jackson winced. Skinner loved his cars and if he was slamming doors, that meant Skinner was pissed. Probably at him. Again.

“What the hell are you doing?” Skinner demanded as he stopped in front of him, crossing his arms over his chest and scowling.

Normally, Jackson would crack a joke or tease his friend, but Jackson was tired. Sneaking off after amazing sex, packing up and lugging all his shit around town then being at the motorcycle shop when they’d opened, Jackson hadn’t gotten any more sleep.

“What are you doing here?” Jackson asked.

“Finding out what the hell you’re thinking, leaving all your stuff at Lance’s house and telling him to leave you a message if he had a job.”

“I’m taking off.” That should be obvious.

“Why?” Skinner demanded.

“I don’t answer to you. I’m not your boy,” Jackson said as anger filled him. He was doing what was best for someone other than himself for the first time in his life and he didn’t need this aggravation. He didn’t need a reason to stay, because it would be a mistake. He needed to go!

“You’re not my boy. You’re my friend and I’m worried about you,” Skinner told him softly.

Damn it! Jackson could argue with an angry Skinner, but he didn’t have any ammunition when Skinner was being his friend.

“No reason to be worried about me,” he lied. “It’s time I left. I’m getting restless.” His friends knew he got like this. Jackson hated being in one place for too long and they had all stayed way longer than planned.

“I don’t believe you,” Skinner responded. “You were getting comfortable here. You couldn’t wait to return when we were in Rocky Lake.”

He snorted. “Like you were any better. Calling Marco every chance you got.”

Skinner shrugged, his elegant suit outlining the muscles in his shoulders. Who the hell wore a suit at nine on a Thursday morning? His friends were weird. “I was surprised when you didn’t call anyone at all.”

Jackson narrowed his eyes.

“Surely Michael or Finn would have liked to hear from you.”

Damn it! Jackson didn’t want to talk about them. “It isn’t like that with us.” There. That was the painful truth.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes,” Jackson ground out.

“By your choice or theirs?”

“Does it matter?” Jackson spat.

“Seeing as Marco told me that Michael called him every day just to make sure he’d heard from us, yes, it matters. That boy cares about you.”

This was the problem with all of them being friends. “Michael has Finn to watch out for him.”
