“Can’t get rid of us that easily,” Jackson pointed out.

The boys had known what Finn had been trying to do. Get them away from danger.

“How do we know that he didn’t get in the apartment?” Michael asked as he shuddered.

“It’s a completely different system. And I did set it before I left.” That hadn’t stopped Skinner from getting inside though.

Jackson must have seen something in his eyes.

“I’ll go check it out,” Jackson said as he rose.

“No.” Finn grabbed Jackson’s arm.

The chain tugged between them.

“We should go together,” Michael said.

“I’ll be quick,” Jackson offered. He glanced at Finn and widened his eyes.

Finn knew what Jackson wanted to do and why. Jackson was armed. He’d collected his weapons from the cabin. Finn had a decision to make. Send Jackson off on his own or they could all go together.

It wasn’t even a hard decision.

Yes, Finn wanted to keep Michael safe and out of harm’s way. That did not mean he was willing to sacrifice Jackson. Jackson might be trained for this kind of thing, but Finn wouldn’t allow him to face a threat alone.

“We’ll all go together.”

“Finn!” Jackson snarled. “Just let me.”

Finn gently urged Michel off his lap. He rose as he stared Jackson in the eye. “We will go together. You are not more expendable than Michael.”

Jackson pressed his lips together.

“I love you. Not more or less than Michael. You are important. Michael is important. We will do this together.”

“I…” Jackson’s eyes softened. “I think I’m starting to get it.”

“About time.” Michael huffed. “Now can we go? I can’t stand not knowing.”

“Yeah.” Jackson cleared his throat. “Let’s go.”

Chapter Fourteen

Jackson

Knocking on the front door, Jackson shifted from one foot to the other. The heavy cuffs that were hidden under his long-sleeve Henley snagged on the fabric and Jackson smiled. It had been one of the very few times in the last eight days that Jackson wasn’t chained to Finn.

“Why are you knocking on my door?” Lance asked after pulling open said door.

Jackson frowned. “You told me to come over.” If Lance had called him over just to fuck with him, Jackson was going to be pissed. He hadn’t wanted to leave that morning. Or his men.

“In the entire time that I’ve lived in this house, you’ve let yourself in. You’ve never knocked.”

That wasn’t true. Was it? No. Jackson must have knocked. At least once. Whatever. “Are you going to let me in?”

“I don’t know,” Lance said. “What’s wrong with you?”

Jackson huffed before he pushed Lance out of the way and into the house.
