Michael shuddered. This was so much worse than he thought. Sure, Finn was amazing, and any man would be lucky to have him. Michael and Jackson were lucky.

“And you?” Finn questioned.

“Let him come for me,” Jackson said with a smile. It wasn’t a very nice smile.

Michael slipped his arms around Jackson’s waist. “I don’t want anything happening to any of us.”

“It won’t, baby,” Jackson promised. “But you're going to become closer to some of the other boys really soon.”

“What did you do?” Finn asked.

“Nothing!” Jackson exclaimed. “Much.”

Finn sighed.

Michael didn’t know whether to be amused. He was sort of amused. Kind of scared though.

“Skinner and Lance will just be keeping an eye on things. Jayme and Marco want to get to know Michael better. It’s really a win-win, having them hang around.”

“And you’re going to let Grant and the cops handle Cary Jeffers?” Finn asked.

Jackson hesitated.

“Jackson,” Finn growled.

“Sure.”

Even Michael didn’t believe him. He pinched Jackson’s side.

“What?” Jackson asked.

“Promise,” Michael demanded.

“I can’t do that,” Jackson said quickly. “I don’t know what Cary has planned. If he hurt you? Then no, I will not leave him for the cops. I’m sorry. But I won’t.”

That was fair. Jackson was who he was, and Michael loved him for it. “Okay.”

“Not okay.” Finn threw his hands up. “I don’t want you to put yourself in harm’s way.”

Jackson slid off the chair and approached Finn. “I’m not giving up my job.”

Finn shook his head.

“What I do.” Jackson sighed. “I might not like it all the time, but what I do is important. And I rarely go out without someone with me. We haven’t done single jobs for a while now. I’ll always have someone who has my back.”

“I have your back,” Finn said.

“I know you do. This isn’t something that I can just stop doing though. And I’d be lying if I said I would. I don’t want to lie to you.”

“Never,” Finn said. “Don’t lie to me. We can work anything out.”

“Then I need you to understand that I won’t go looking for trouble, but I also won’t hide.”

“I know that.”

“I’ll be careful,” Jackson said. “I’ll always have you or someone with me.”

Finn had to agree. This was Jackson setting boundaries. Communicating. This was what they needed. Michael crossed his fingers before he made his own demand. His own boundary.
