“Why didn’t you just stop her?” My voice broke.

The pained expression on Armando’s face spoke of more volumes than my words had intended to. “Mi dispiace—”

I gruffly waved his words off. “Not your fault.”

This wasn’t me. Fucking blaming my people for a fault of mine. I was exhausted. The pitiful looks from my staff told me I was no help to anyone when I couldn’t think clearly.

Taking Cora, whose cries had finally melted down to hiccupping sniffles, I walked over to our room.

Empty.

Not that I expected anything else. The frame with her parents’ picture was missing, of course. If only I had thought to put a GPS tracker in that frame because wherever she went, she took it with her. I noticed her smashed phone, which Armando had recovered from the floor.

It was still working. I was, for once, happy with my wife’s lack of interest in new technology because my team could easily crack the passcode to her phone.

I scrolled through her recent phone calls and messages and came across a video in her messages.

The pounding in my head only increased when I watched it. I finally knew why she had picked up so suddenly and left. I had heaped lie upon lie on her, and when she was lying injured on the floor, this video had given her the last kick.

I had lost my wife.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

ANTONIO

Iforgot. For a goddamn few minutes, I forgot. Till the absence of a familiar floral scent of lotus and lilies brought with it a sickening reality. With a harsh groan, I let myself drown again in the memories of yesterday, reliving my past and my wretched mistakes.

A strong man learned from his mistakes. It was only an imbecile who repeated them.

I flipped Cora a glance before I pulled myself to the bathroom. I had thrown Divya’s rules out the window and put her to sleep next to me. She was missing her as much as I did, through no fault of hers. She lay there now, her thighs and arms spread wide apart, swaddled by pillows and her favourite rabbit. It made me crave my favourite cuddle too.

When I came back to the room, my phone was lighting up.

“Yeah.”

Marco’s voice filled my ears. “We tracked the number. It’s new, under fucking Igor’s name.”

“Igor as in—”

“Yuliya’s fuck buddy,” Marco cut me off.

“Che cazzo Marco,” I roared. Even I shocked myself with my lack of control. Rearing back, I swiftly glanced at a stirring Cora. I waited for a few seconds for her to settle down before stalking away. Thank fuck my girl could sleep through a blast.

“Why is this not a surprise?” A sigh escaped me as I ran my agitated hands through my hair. “Pick him up—”

“Done,” Marco said, proving again his worth as my right-hand man. “Got our story out of him after some persuasion.”

I didn’t bother asking what methods they had used. They might as well cut his dick off, as far as I was concerned.

“He was in an apartment below Divya.”

“What?”

“He was the one who gave Divya the suggestion to apply for a job.”

“I didn’t know this.”

“Yeah… Let’s face it. You don’t think with your head when it comes to her. Well… at least the one on top.”
