“I have no clue,” he said. “I’m just glad they’re here now.”

“So tell me everything that happened, starting with the car bombs,” Caleb said. “Then I have some news of my own.”

Everyone filled in parts of the story as they could, ending with Alanah’s near death and healing from the fairy king.

“What’s your news?” Serena asked.

“I’ve made arrangements with Alpha Black to bring Ronan, Sylas, and Taryn to work for me, so you don’t have to meet with him or sign any contracts. Unless you’re interested in beating people all to hell every weekend,” he said with a raised brow.

“That’s amazing, thank you,” Ronan said. “I’m definitely not interested.”

“Me either,” Sylas said. “Where would we work?”

“I’ve got you guys covered,” Alaric said. “We’re always looking for people to add to the security team.”

Ronan nodded.

Caleb said, “If the fairies didn’t plant the bombs, then who did? It seems strange that Alanah would show up with her sabertooth tiger mate and his siblings, and the next day there are three car bombs at the hotel entrance.”

Ronan agreed. The whole thing was strange.

“Do you believe the fairies?” Lia asked.

“Yeah,” Serena said. “If they’d been trying to hurt us or Alanah, they would have said. And they wouldn’t have used a bomb, they would have used a spell.”

“Good point.” Caleb frowned. “So where does that leave us?”

“I don’t know,” Alaric said. “Got any enemies?”

“That show up randomly like this? Not that I’m aware of. You guys?”

The sabers all shook their heads.

There was silence for a few minutes, and then Gretchen said, “Oh! Dredge.”

“What’s a dredge?” Sylas asked.

“Not a what, a who,” Gretchen said. “He’s a warlock. I bet he could cast a spell and figure out who’s intending to harm us.”

“I didn’t know warlocks could do that,” Alanah said.

“I only know because he told me once about a spell he cast that showed him a vision of someone intending to harm another person.”

“He’s not here,” Aubrey said. “He’s out on some benevolent thing.”

At Ronan’s confused look, Aubrey clarified that the warlock spent his time casting spells and helping less fortunate people. Unlike his family who were basically mercenaries for hire with magic at their disposal.

“I can reach out to him, though,” Alaric said. “I’m sure he would be willing to help.”

“Then let’s do that,” Caleb said. “In the meantime, until we get to the bottom of things, no one goes anywhere alone, and security is ramped up inside and out, twenty-four-seven.”

Alaric nodded. “We’ve got two new security guards to help out.”

“I’m in too,” Taryn said.

“Cool,” Slade said.

“That just leaves me without a job,” Alanah said.
