Damn.

He bent over the table and was determined to get at least one ball in the pocket, but again Maddy moved over to the pocket he was aiming for. He tried with all his might, even used his combat training to focus on what he was doing, but he made the mistake of looking up at her. The irresistible dare in her sparkling golden eyes showed him a slew of possibilities and beckoned him to accept every single one. There was that beguiling curve to her lush mouth that captured his full attention, along with the fact that the light played on her skin, bringing out the warm glow, and fuck him, he missed again.

There were several groans from the team. Fuck, those must have been the guys who had bet for him to win.

“Oh, no. It must not be your night, Shark.” She raised a dark brow, highlighting the amusement in her gaze that taunted him.

She was a piece of work, using her sex kitten ways to fuck him over, and his jaw tightened, wondering how the hell this one woman could push all his hot buttons.

“Come on, man. You can do it,” Easy said. “Just ignore her.”

Easier said than done, Shark thought. It was her turn, so if she got the next shot, and the eight ball, it was game over.

He shifted, trying to alleviate the pressure against his dick. It was as distracting as the woman.

She tilted her head, her smoky eyes glimmering impudently as if saying better luck next time. Her upper body bent at the waist, her silky tousled hair slid over her shoulder and cascaded into the light, picking up the deep red and catching it on fire.

She sank her last ball while he watched her, then she moved to the eight ball and dunked it in.

“I can’t believe you lost to a girl,” Twister said in a ribbing way.

He couldn’t believe it either, but she’d used every skill in her arsenal to distract him, seduce him, and throw off his game so effectively, he couldn’t help but respect her for it. It was a shark-like move. He loved that sparkle in her eyes.

“We’re heading off to bed,” her mom said. Her mom stopped by him, “She has expensive tastes, but don’t let her bamboozle you.” She didn’t say it, but it was in her eyes. Again.

He shook his head with a chuckle. She’d outmaneuvered and outplayed him and that wasn’t easy to do. She might have plans to dent his wallet, but it was his bruised ego that needed nursing.

“I’m going to get to those dishes,” Maddy said with a smile, replacing the cue and heading for the doorway. Even though he didn’t want to be charmed by her, he couldn’t help it. He watched her tight ass sashay out of the room.

He was left with the team.

“I’m heading to bed too. I want to call Nora before I go to sleep,” Tex said.

“I’m right behind you,” Bondo said. “Cameron is waiting up for me.”

As soon as they were gone, Twister smirked. “So, you caved to those come-and-get-me looks she was throwing you,” he said.

Brawler crossed his arms over his chest. “Hey, man, they were pretty potent.”

Shark looked at them, shrugging evasively, refusing to let Twister’s observation turn into a more personal discussion about the situation between him and Maddy. “She won. That’s all I got to say.”

The wallets came out and money started to exchange hands. “You guys bet against me?”

“Hey, I’m no dummy,” Flash said. “I…summed up her attributes and made my bet according to my gut.” Brawler and Dagger had also bet against him.

“It’s more than Shark did, and he wasn’t playing with his gut,” Easy said.

The guys chuckled.

Twister set his butt against the table and grinned. “I’d say that was accurate, considering the way you’re watching her like you wouldn’t mind mixing a bit of pleasure with our business here. Has she gotten under your skin?”

Annoyed at Twister’s tenacity, along with his keen consideration of the situation between his buddy and Maddy, Shark clenched his jaw. “She’s a beautiful woman, and I got distracted. Now drop it. She’s the ambassador’s daughter.” His tone was clipped with impatience.

“With a mind of her own,” Twister said in amusement. “Good luck with her.”

Shark had enough of Twister’s ribbing and gave him a dark scowl. “Shut the fuck up, will you?”

Twister laughed heartily, not the least bit offended by Shark’s outburst, which was a dead giveaway of just how on edge Shark was over Maddy.
