Shaking her head, I catch her smile from the corner of my eye. “Nope, he ditched you the night you gave him your cherry, without a word. And what… he thinks he can just show up a decade later and you’ll be happy to see him?”

She’s absolutely right. I’m pissed. So pissed. But I’ve been holding my breath for all these years, wondering what happened, why he left.

I haven’t even let another man touch me since him, preferring the company of my vibrator and a sexy book. Or occasionally a bit of man-on-man porn.

Parking on the street out the front of the only motel in town, I turn to my best friend. “I want to confront him, but I kinda want to see if he comes looking for me again. Does that sound stupid?”

“Not at all. He should be chasing after you, begging for your forgiveness,” she states, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Yeah, that’d be nice,” I mumble. “But what if I screwed it all up yesterday, pretending not to remember him?”

A delighted smile stretches across her face, and she points out the car door window at my back. “I don’t think that will be a problem,” she says.

Heat prickles my skin as I slowly turn around to find Tyler squatting to look at me through said window.

I’m making my way out to my car when I see a busted old powder blue VW Beetle parked on the street. I know that car. I’d know it anywhere. Margo bought it that last summer we spent together, just before everything in my life went to shit.

Taking note of the two shadows inside, I go over to investigate. Does she still own it, or has she sold it to another kid to be their first car?

Just as I crouch down to look through the driver’s side window, the woman in the passenger seat points at me. The beautiful blonde behind the wheel slowly turns in my direction, her big blue eyes blinking at me in shock, once again.

Without thinking, I open the door and she nearly topples out. I move quickly, curling my arm around her upper body to stop her fall. Having her in my arms again feels so incredible, I don’t want to release her.

Tentative hands brush against my chest, and I peer down into her eyes. “Hey,” I say softly.

Her lashes flutter as she scrambles out of my arms. “Uh, thanks,” she mumbles.

“You’re welcome. So, what brings you here, Margo?”

A blank mask drops over her normally expressive face.

I frown. “Margo?”

“She was dropping me off,” says the petite chick with her as she climbs out of the passenger side. “My boyfriend and I like to spice things up with a little role play. Today, I’m a naughty motel maid.” She winks.

Okay, that was more than I needed to know.

Chapter Three

What the hell, Ava? She just left me here with Tyler, alone.

He rubs the back of his neck and watches my friend strut to the motel reception. When he turns his gaze back to me, he smiles shyly.

His eyes suck me in just like they used to. My heart expands in my chest as his gaze rakes over me, then he bites his full bottom lip.

“You look good,” he says, exhaling. “I’ve missed you.”

I blink at him dumbly. I can’t seem to find my tongue.

He nods, glances at the ground, and kicks some loose gravel with the toe of his boot. “Right, you don’t remember me,” he mumbles on a self-deprecating laugh.

The words are stuck in my throat. I do remember. I could never forget you.

Shaking his head, he clears his throat and straightens his shoulders. “That’s okay. I’m going to take you on a walk down memory lane, if you’ll let me, that is,” he adds.

“Memory lane?” I ask.

His lips quirk with a gorgeous smile. “Yeah, you say you don’t remember me, but I’ve never forgotten you. Will you give me a chance to jog your memory?” he asks, extending a hand toward me.
