My hair was down, which I didn’t normally do, so I had Callie curl it for me. Although I’m a girly girl, I don’t know anything about doing my hair, so it’s always in a bun.

The bar was only a twenty-minute walk away from the hotel. We waited fifteen minutes for a table, which wasn’t horrible because this was clearly the place to be tonight. I could definitely see myself hanging out here if I lived closer.

We walked to the bar to grab drinks while we waited. The bartender tried flirting with Callie, but she shut him down with a wave of her ring. We both opted to start with a glass of wine, mine white and hers red.

“How are you feeling about this?” Callie asked.

I took a sip of my wine. “Honestly, like I’m gonna shit my pants at any moment.” We both laughed.

“It is going to be great. There is no possible scenario where he wouldn’t love you.”

“I wish you were right Cal, but what if he wants nothing to do with me? Do I just leave and pretend it didn’t happen, forget I even found out? I don’t think I can do that.”

She thought for a moment. “Just don’t put that into the world. Just know he’s going to love you and that’s it.”

“Whatever you say, Cal.”

Our hostess came to seat us and we ordered dinner. We got grilled chicken salads and split a plate of sweet potato fries. We call it our best friend dinner.

The music playing was great, and the people singing weren’t half bad.I just wanted to chill and take in the scenery. I might dance a little, but I probably won't sing tonight because I have no confidence to sing without my guitar. Callie was okay with that because she would rather play music on the piano, not sing it.

We finished our meals but we weren’t ready to go, so we ordered another appetizer. Wings are the perfect drunk food.

Jake called, so Callie stepped away. “I will be right back; I’m going to go take this call outside on the patio where it’s quiet.”

“Okay, I’ll go get us more drinks,” I said as we both got up.

“Margarita, please!” Callie chimed.

I watched her walk outside as I walked over to the bar and ordered both of us watermelon margaritas, mine with sugar and hers with salt.

It suddenly felt like someone was staring at me but I looked around and didn’t immediately see anyone paying attention to me. I figured it was just my anxiety kicking in a little. I turned back towards the bar to throw a five-dollar bill into the tip jar and that’s when I felt someone touch my arm, causing me to jump.

“Hey Miss Aubrey, didn’t think I would see you here tonight. What are you up to?”

Those blue eyes I thought about while in the shower stared back at me. He leaned onto the bar next to me.

“I’m sorry. Do I know you?” I smirked.

“Oh, you wound me.” He clutched his chest jokingly like I hurt his ego or something. The bartender placed my drinks down and I was relieved I had a reason to walk away. He was making me nervous already and all he did was say hello.

My laugh was apprehensive, “Okay, I will see you tomorrow Lincoln. I’ve gotta get these drinks back to my friend.”

“Let me carry those for you, darlin’.” He stepped in front of me and grabbed them both off the bar. “Lead the way.”

I rolled my eyes but turned and led him toward the table anyway because I didn’t want him to see my cheeks flush or the shit-eating grin on my face.

CHAPTER TEN

Aubrey

Callie was already back at the table giving me the look. She was silently asking if she needed to intervene. I pointed at the drinks and gave her a wink so she relaxed a little.

“Who’s the sex god?” she mouthed. I’m almost positive he saw it. She is just about the least subtle person ever. I pointed to my eyes while mouthing “music store” to get her to understand I was talking about the guy from earlier. He placed them down on the table, nodded his head, and left. I thought he was gone for good, but he came back not even ten seconds later with his beer and slid into my side of the booth.

“Hey, I’m Lincoln, but friends call me Link. Nice to meet you.” He reached across the table and shook Callie’s hand. She shook his hand with her left hand to show off her ring, and he didn’t miss the gesture.

“Nice to meet you, Lincoln,” she said.
