“Yes, I’ll take my light and sweet mocha and then whatever they get. Forget the black coffee please.”

“You got it, darlin’.” She turned and started making our drinks. “Are you working there or something? You’re new around here.” The last part wasn’t a question, more like an observation.

“No, I am just passing through for now. I have some personal business to take care of in town. I’m just grabbing coffee to thank them for welcoming me yesterday.”

It was a half-truth, but I think she bought it. She handed me the tray of coffee.

“You give them my best, will you? And you tell them to stop by and see me more often. I miss seeing those beautiful blue eyes they both have. That handsome young stud Link sure is nice to look at.” That made my stomach jump; I'm not sure why. She stuck her hand out to shake mine. “My name is Mable, but most people call me Miss Mable because I’m the old lady around here.” I laughed a little and shook her hand.

“I’m Aubrey. Nice to meet you, Miss Mable. I will let them know to show their faces more.” She smiled as I turned and headed out the door.

I started shaking as I walked by the table, so I sat down and called my parents. I just wanted to hear their voices and say good morning; I hoped hearing them would calm my nerves. We spoke for a few minutes, and it did help a little. I was just about to get up to leave the coffee shop when someone sat down beside me.

“Audrey, right?” Kayla said as she sat down. Her red hair was all mangled into a bun, and her makeup was a bit smudged. She was wearing the same outfit from last night.

“No, actually. It’s Aubrey.” I smiled, knowing she was trying to be facetious. “How are you today?”

“Oh, I’m great; I was just going to head over to see if Linky Poo wanted to get dinner tonight. We spend time together quite often. He’s a very busy man if you know what I mean. He’s always out with someone new, so you gotta tie down plans when you can.”

“Oh really? He told me you guys hooked up once. He said you were interested, unlike him.” I gave her a knowing smile.

She rolled her eyes and stood up almost as if she were offended. “Have a nice day, Audrey.”

“Again, it’s Aubrey. And Kayla, you may want to check a mirror babe.” She gave me a dirty look. “You’re welcome. I hope you have the day you deserve.” I smiled, as she scoffed and walked away. I sat there for a few more minutes in case she really was going the same way. I didn’t want her to think I was following her.

I walked over to The Music Bar and looked up at the sign. I’m really doing this. Good or bad, I will be happy with the outcome; I got this. I grabbed the handle to the door and walked in.

Link was at the counter and, for some reason, that comforted me. I saw him talking to Kayla. The girl moves fast. He looked pretty uncomfortable, so I walked over and handed him the coffee with his name on it.

“Good morning again!” I said, a bit too chipper, to both of them.

Link looked at the cup I offered him and took a sip. “Mmm, this is the exact coffee I drink.” He looked at me with a wicked grin. “I knew it wouldn’t take you long to start stalking me.”

I rolled my eyes and snorted. “Hardly.”

He laughed. “Thanks. How did you know what I drink?”

“You can thank Miss Mable for stalking you for me. Maybe you could try your luck with her. She seems to think you’re quite the catch.” I smiled.

He smirked. “Ah, yes, that woman remembers everything. Even the things I wish she would forget,” he chuckled. “Miss Mable has saved me many mornings when I drank too much the night before. She never did rat on me,” he smiled.

“I was grateful. I was going to bring you black coffee. It looks like you got some frilly drink there. What is it exactly?”

“Honestly, I don’t even think it has a name. She just made it for me one day when I asked for something with a ton of sugar, and now that’s all I get when I go there.”

“Well, I’m gonna head out.” We both turned to look at Kayla. I had forgotten she was standing there. “Linky, let me know about dinner. You have my number.”

Link smiled as she walked out. “Sorry about her. She’s getting worse, if that’s even possible.”

“Oh, so she didn’t go home with you?” I asked. I'm not really sure if I honestly wanted to know.

He leaned toward me. “Why? Are you jealous?”

I was about to respond when August came out. He had a massive smile on his face. I felt my own smile drop, and then I went numb. He was handsome for an older man. I could tell he originally had light hair, but it was now very salt-and-pepper.

My eyes.

He has my eyes, or rather, I have his. I’ve never seen someone with my eyes before. He interrupted my thoughts by speaking.
