Callie looked concerned. “Don’t stay too long. I need you to help me plan a wedding,” she joked.

I grabbed her hand. “I wouldn’t miss it, babe. You and me, soulmates forever.”

Liza stood up. “I’m so excited about this. Let’s move this to the dining room to chat. I’m sure dinner is done by now.”

We had a lovely dinner and conversation. We talked about my life, and I learned more about theirs. August’s love of music comes from his dad. Mine does too, I guess. I learned all about Link as a teen and all the trouble he caused. It sounded like he was exactly like Max, which is annoying. I don’t associate with fuck boys anymore. I’m surprised Liza put up with him. She’s a literal saint from what I can see.

Callie took my car and returned to the hotel around seven o’clock P.M. She wanted to get to bed early and call Jake to finalize everything to go home tomorrow. Link offered to drive me back so I could stay until I was ready to go. I stayed for about two more hours. Understandably, we couldn’t stop talking.

I finally worked up the nerve to leave them. I said my goodbyes and followed Link to his car.

“I don’t mind walking. You can just go on with your night. I’m sure you’re busy.”

He gave me a weird look. “What’s with you wanting to walk around a place you don’t know?”

I felt a bit embarrassed. “I like seeing new places.”

“Aren’t you a little freaked out being alone in a place you’ve never been?”

I thought about it for a second. “No, which is new for me, honestly. I’m usually pretty anxious.” I gave a polite smile. “Should I be scared of getting jumped or something?” I laughed.

“Maybe,” he said with a sly grin. “I’ll walk with you just in case.”

I didn’t say anything. I just smiled and started walking with him on my heels. I kept catching him sneaking looks at me, but I think he was just nervous.

“I hope me staying a while doesn’t mess up your flow.” I tried to break the awkwardness, but he didn’t even look at me.

“Mess up my flow? How so?” He raised his eyebrows.

“You know what I mean. I hope you don’t feel like I’m completely shoving you aside. If there is ever a moment you are sick of me and no longer want me here, say the word. This is your home.”

He chuckled. “That’s very considerate of you, but I don’t think anyone around here will get sick of you.”

A blush ran up my cheeks. “You just haven’t spent enough time with me yet,”

“I plan to change that,” he said without any hesitation. He smirked. It almost looked like he was blushing, but I couldn’t see clearly since he was still looking down.

We got to the hotel, and I stopped at the door. I did a mock bow just like he did last night when he asked me to dance. “I thank you, kind sir. I’ll see you tomorrow night at your house.”

He looked a bit uncomfortable. “Do you run every day? I ask because I do most days, so we could do that again in the morning if you wanted to. It was fun.” He was looking me in the eyes now.

“Yeah, I’d like that. What time are you thinking?”

“How about I text you when I get up, and we can decide then. I have to be at work at seven thirty in the morning for a meeting, so probably around five, maybe, but I won’t know till I get up. Sometimes I drag my ass.”

I laughed. “Yeah, that works. I’ll be up.” I took his phone, added my number, and handed it back. “Are you sure you’re okay with this? I can stay at the hotel if that’s better for you. Again, I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. I feel like I make you nervous or something.”

“Or something,” he chuckled. “I’m good; seeing a beautiful woman in the kitchen every day isn’t the worst thing that could happen to me,” he shrugged. “I’ll see you bright and early, sunshine.”

I gave him a smile and walked inside.

I had just gotten back from a run with Link, and I realized Callie was still in bed sleeping. I woke her up before I left, but she clearly didn’t budge.

“Wake up, sleepy head. It's already six o’clock. Your flight is soon, isn’t it?” I nudged her.

“I don’t wanna, Momma,” she whined as she pulled the covers down and smirked at me. Ultimately I won the conversation because she shuffled out of bed and into the shower. After her shower she sat with me on the bed. “So what are ya thinking?”

I gave her a look. “About what?”
