“Choke and die,” I snarl, pulling her impossibly deeper into my chest. “I’m not letting her out of my sight. Especially not with you.”

Bear rolls his shit-colored eyes. “Look, I’m sorry for the other night. I was trashed, moody, and out of my fucking mind. Now can we move past it already?”

I inspect his expression. “Carlotta got to you, didn’t she?”

He sighs, running a hand over his face. “She always fucking does.”

A smirk tugs at my lips as I extend a hand over Lillith’s head. “I forgive you. I’m not sorry for fucking up your nose, though.”

“Yeah. I figured.”

I turn my gaze to Lillith, spinning her in my arms so we’re heart to heart. Cupping her cheek, I gently guide her lips up to mine. She’s just as sweet as she always is.

“So fucking delicious,” I moan, pulling away so I can take in her expression. “You gonna be okay if I leave you with Bear, little flower?” At her look of hesitancy, I add, “He’s the only person in this world I trust with my life. He’ll keep you safe.”

“Okay,” she whispers, pressing up on her tiptoes to give me one last peck. It’s only for a moment, but the sparks that linger threaten to drive me mad with lust. As soon as I handle this bullshit, I’m taking her home and fucking her the way I’ve wanted to. The way I know she craves.

I tear my eyes up to Bear’s. “If I come back and someone has so much as breathed on her—”

“I got it.” He takes a step closer to Lillith. “Go do what you need to do.”

“I’ll be right back,” I promise, letting my fingers linger on her for as long as possible before I pull away. I stomp over to John’s office, pushing through the throngs of drunken bikers and groupies with rage cresting in my veins. How could he do this to me? To this club?

Just like Wes said, the carrot-haired twins stand outside the entrance, arms the size of tree trunks crossed over their chests in an attempt to seem tough. It would certainly work on anyone who didn’t know them personally.

“Marcus. Maxwell.” I give them each a gruff nod. Matching sky-blue eyes watch my approaching frame with caution. By the expression on their dumb faces, it’s clear someone has given them orders to keep an eye out for me. Well, John, if you wanted to keep me out so badly, you should have made sure there was at least one pair of balls between your guard dogs.

“Kain.” Marcus is the first to speak. Though obviously braver than his younger brother, he can’t quite hide the quiver in his voice. “You can’t come in right now.”

“Oh?” I cock my head at them, unblinking. “Why’s that?”

“It’s a closed meeting,” Maxwell snaps.

“Ah, so they are having a meeting in there. Thanks for confirming.” I turn my eye onto the younger one, having all the information I need to break him. “I’m assuming you weren’t supposed to tell me that. How do you think Onyx is going to repay you for that?”

Maxwell’s lip trembles, but before he can speak, his brother steps in front of him. “Leave him alone, Kain. You already fucking knew what was going on in there.”

“Oh, that’s not what I’m going to tell Onyx,” I lie easily, giving the brothers a shrug. “Besides, we both know the only thing he’ll care about is that you let it slip to the one person you couldn’t. He’ll never trust you with something again. You know that.”

“What the fuck do you want?” Marcus asks, never letting up his protective stance.

“I want you to step aside quietly and let me the fuck inside,” I growl, stepping up so we’re chest to chest. Leaning over to his ear, I lower my voice so his brother is unable to hear. “Onyx will forgive you eventually. If you want to live to see that happen, you’ll step aside like the dickless fuck you are.”

Marcus’s throat bobs, and without a moment of thought, he shuffles to the side to give me access to the door. I scoff, eyeing the two with disgust as I wrap my fist around the brass handle. Now here comes the hard part.

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

LILLITH

I twist the gold chain around my thumb, watching my periphery as hordes of leather-clad men file through the doors. Some wear snakes on their sleeves, while the rest sport the same flames that Kain has on his jacket.

“Bear, who are the guys with the green sleeves?” I ask, turning my head slightly to look at him.

His brow shoots to his hairline. “Kain didn’t tell you?”

“He hasn’t really had a chance…” My face heats as memories of the past few days swirl in my mind. “I don’t think he’s happy about it, whatever it is.”

Bear scoffs, leaning back against the bar. “That’s an understatement.” He pauses for a moment, seeming to debate whether he wants to tell me more. “The guys with green sleeves are Serpents. They were our rival club as of yesterday.”
