“If you don’t want me to say it,” Cari said softly. “I won’t.”

I wanted to object.

I wanted to claim that I had no idea what she was talking about.

But I couldn’t.

When I didn’t respond, Cari spoke.

“All right,” she said. “Forget about it.”

Chapter 31: Feremir

The stone well shattered and its fragments fell, the liquid pouring out of it branching into two. One of the branches descended to the river below and became a part of it. The other branch surged to the sky and hit the gold crown. The crown broke upon impact, the pouring rain becoming a torrent that flooded the realms anew. Agony and turmoil etched upon the souls of the warring fae, their screams rose as the dark figure stood. The sky broke; the dark and light joined together, becoming one.

I hadn’t noticed before how quick it all was. Images flashing before my eyes carried the weight of my memories of the future. The colors had shifted, but the vision was the same.

Or at least, I had thought so.

I saw her wings first. Purple and covered with beautiful markings, this time, they unleashed as she looked over her shoulder. My heart ached with worry as the faceless enemy marched toward her. She stood high, making them bend before her.

She smiled like I remembered her, confident and hopeful despite all she had seen.

Hope erupted in her smile.

I felt it too.

A loud crashing sound reached me within. The sound did not belong, I knew that even before the vision ended and I found myself in the darkness of my own mind.

“They’ll break in!” Aislinn shouted.

I opened my eyes and saw chaos.

Lord Aster and Aislinn had barricaded the door with nearly all the furniture in the room. The books on the shelves were scattered around and the bookshelves were in front of the door. There was wind howling all around us, going to the door to add weight to the furniture before it.

A loud thump told me the soldiers were on the other side of that door, trying to get in.

Yeen was still standing in front of the mirror, completely unmoved.

“They’re gonna get in,” Lord Aster cursed. “That boy just destroyed everything.”
