That had really happened to three girls whom Paisley had invited over for a girl lunch during her search for a BFF. Turned out that 75% of her guests only came because they thought they would get a chance to meet her guardians. And her remaining guest became so shy that she fled at the sight of them.

“And what about what you did to Hannah? You made her fall in love with you. You saved her life, and now she thinks you’re her heroes. Her knights in shining armor, but then what do you do? She declares her eternal love, and you reject her. You broke her heart, and now she can’t be my friend anymore, and I—”

She sucked in a breath, confused about why she felt as if she was going to start crying.

If any of those romance novels she read were anything to go by, Hannah was their perfect heroine. Meet cutes—imperative for a fairytale happy ever after—check.

The first time they came across Hannah was when she and Paisley were spending the afternoon swimming. Hannah tripped over something within seconds of being introduced to them, bruised her knees, and fell into the pool. What she forgot to tell Paisley was that she didn’t know how to swim, and she hated water. Thankfully, Benjamin, in a split second, dove in and saved her. Meet-cute one executed.

For weeks, they’d been excited about attending a masquerade ball. With Hannah being a heiress, it made sense that Benjamin, David, and Jackson moved around in the same circles as her. Again, Hannah tripped backward over something unseen, and David effortlessly wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her to safety, preventing her from splitting her skull open on the edge of the marble step behind her. Meet-cute two loaded.

At a movie night she and Hannah were having, they skipped downstairs for more snacks, only for Hannah to pop a cherry into her mouth and then choke on it. Luckily, Jackson was on hand to pop that thing right out of her throat. Meet-cute three secured.

And they... they were the stubborn billionaires who couldn’t see the lovely love of their lives right in front of their eyes.

Oh god. They were meant to be. And she was standing in the way of true romance.

“And now I want you to—”

“What Paisley? You want us to do what?” David asked softly, thrilling her nerves and capsizing her whole world.

Touch me...

“No,” she said, shaking her head furiously. “I want you to fix it,” she whispered, then, gearing up some control, she continued. “I want you to fix it by telling her you’re sorry and you made a mistake, and you would love to go out with her.” She dug into her pocket for her phone.

“Call her right now and tell her you’re sorry for being first-class dicks, she didn’t deserve it, and you want to take her to dinner and—” She shoved the phone into Benjamin’s chest, and they all three looked at her hand plastered against his chest, their gazes darkening with every moment that went by.

“This girl is going to kill us,” Benjamin growled before he took her phone and threw it onto a thick plush chair nearby.

She was still reeling from Benjamin’s reaction, but now her gaze skittishly followed David and Jackson as they pulled a long leather bench to the center of the room. Benjamin retrieved a bunch of rope from an overnight bag they had clearly brought with them and tossed it over to David and Jackson.

Her mind had deserted her, and her body was doing strange things to her.

“Again, are you going to take your clothes off for us, or do you want us to do that for you?”

Chapter Ten

Paisley had no idea what game they were playing, but she was done. She’d tried to do everything in her power that she thought was the right thing, and while things didn’t go as planned and she never got to have her gotcha moment, she maybe fixed things for Hannah.

A weird, tremendous pain started inching its way into her heart. Yep, she was experiencing a mega dose of disappointment that they beat her to her own punchline. But her work here was done. They would eventually realize Hannah was perfect for them, and they would call her, and they’d live happily ever after.

But, she was done. And she had to leave before she started crying... for no other reason except for them ruining her master plan by figuring out it was her. All that hard work for nothing. And honestly, they were just messing with her.

Again, are you going to take your clothes off for us, or do you want us to do that for you? She mimicked them in a deep voice in her head, mocking them.

She turned around and headed for the door.

“Don’t mess it up with Ha—”

She never got to finish her sentence. Her world was yanked out from under her as her feet were swept up off the floor and she was tossed over a hard, broad shoulder.

It took precious moments for her brain to filter what had happened to her, and by the time it registered, she was already divested of her jacket and her pants. By the time she started yelling in shocked surprise, her panties, undeniably wet, were peeled off her thighs, and she found herself placed on her hands and knees on the bench, her wrists and ankles being bound to the legs of the bench with the rope they had brought with them.

Finally, her voice made a show.

“What are you—Are you insane? Untie me right now. Right this minute. Or I’m going to scream until my lungs burst, and someone is going to come charging through that door, and I’m going to tell them how crazy you three psychos are.”

“You can scream all you want. No one will hear you. As of a couple of hours ago, we’re the proud owners of The Comeback Lodge, and we had all the guests already here relocated.”
