“Down with those diamond clips I gave you to hold back the sides.”

“This is all very mysterious, but I’ll play along…for now.”

“It’s going to be a special day.”

“So you keep saying. Eleven?”

“Yes. Finish your breakfast because it’s almost nine and you need to be ready by ten to eleven.”

“Fuck, Ben. I should have started getting ready an hour ago.”

I set the plate from my toast on the tray and Nikita’s empty plate on top before taking her face between my hands. “You’ll be ready.”

I kissed her lips and drank my coffee, nervous that the day I had planned went off without a hitch.

NIKITA

After showering and applying my favourite body lotion, I pulled on a white lacy g-string, matching bra, and sheer lace-topped stockings. They were identical to the ones I'd worn on our wedding day, but my husband hadn't had the opportunity to appreciate them. When Benvolio said we would be doing something special on this trip and asked me to bring the blue dress and shoes that he loved me to wear, I'd bought the new lingerie to make what was underneath as special as the dress.

I pushed my feet into the sky-blue heels and lowered the dress over my head, being careful not to disturb my carefully crafted curls. I closed the zipper at the back and admired myself in the full-length mirror. The dress was rather formal with a lacy bodice that was lined with the softest silk and a flared silk skirt that flowed from my waist to the centre of both knees. Satisfied I was done, I dabbed on a few drops of Chanel No 5 and left the bathroom.

Benvolio stood waiting and the breath caught in my throat at the sight of my gorgeous man in a tuxedo.

“Wow. You are stunningly beautiful, Nik.”

Benvolio stepped towards me, and I noticed the small box he held in his hands. He flipped the lid to reveal a beautiful diamond drop necklace on a silver chain. It was stunning in its simplicity.

I lifted my head to meet his eyes. “It’s beautiful, Ben. Thank you.”

“I hoped you would like it as much as I did when my jeweller brought it over to the house. There are some other pieces at home, but I wanted you to wear this today. Turn around.”

I did as he asked, carefully holding my hair out of the way, and he fastened it around my neck.

The classic cut diamond in a birdcage setting sat just above my cleavage. I touched it gently and turned to face my husband.

We shared a disappointingly brief kiss because Benvolio insisted we needed to be on our way.

BENVOLIO

I held Nikita's hand in mine and guided her along a path that weaved through the gardens of the village until, we reached the steps leading up to our destination—a small, white-painted chapel.

Water cascaded over rocks and gardens beside the stairs and Nikita glanced back over her shoulder to admire the sight as we climbed to the top.

At the door to the chapel, I was greeted by a priest in dress robes who held a bible in his hands. I shook his hand and turned to my wife.

“Father, this is Nikita.”

The father held out one hand and they shook before he handed her a bouquet of tropical flowers that had been on a chair beside where he stood. Mother had organised the flowers and decoration of the church for which I was grateful.

When she and Father had been told what I had planned, Mother had been ecstatic and willing to help with what I needed. She was the only glitch in the entire plan, I was convinced she would blurt my plans out to Nikita, but she'd made me proud by not saying a word.

The priest disappeared inside, and Nikita turned to me with a confused look on her face.

I dropped to one knee, confusing her even more. “Nikita, I would like you to do me the honour of becoming my wife.”
