“I have my own shirts, you know.” She smiles as she slips my shirt over her head and pulls on the pair of panties I set next to it.

“I know, but seeing your woman walk around your shirt is the dream.” I’m pretty sure every man on the planet would agree with me.

She strolls over to where I’m sitting, and I can’t help but stare at the sway of her hips on her way over. With the way my dick pays attention, you wouldn’t think I just fucked her senseless. “So I’m your woman, huh?”

Standing from the chaise, I wrap one hand around her waist and pull her tight against me once she’s in front of me. She laughs and shakes her head when she feels my erection against her stomach. “You really have no refractory period, do you?”

I lean down so my lips hover just above hers. “Yes, you are, and no, I don’t.” I give her a quick kiss on the lips, forcing myself not to get distracted again. “Come on. Let’s go get some dinner and talk to Ronan and Finn.” She looks at me hesitantly, and I run my thumb along the small of her back, where I’m still holding her against me. “It’ll be alright. We will figure out a plan. We will keep you safe. I promise.” I know without a shadow of a doubt, I have never wanted to keep a promise more in my entire life. Her face relaxes at my words. “But first food. Because I’m so fucking hungry I might whither away and die.”

She tips her head back and lets out a laugh. I want to make her laugh like that over and over again. “Come on, drama king, let’s go.”

It’s just after eight when our takeout arrives. Ronan went downstairs to get it at the front door, as nobody else is allowed on this floor, and I busy myself with getting out plates and drinks. Mac and Harper have been holed up in her room for most of the day, and I miss her after only a few hours. I know she needed the rest, though. Between our evening at the club, her night with Ronan, and everything we dropped on her after breakfast, I’m not the least surprised that she could sleep the day away. I wish I could have held her all day. I wish I could have been the one to comfort her. But I don’t know how to do that, at least not as well as Mac does. He’s what she needed.

I mean, how am I supposed to help other people with their emotions when I do everything I can to keep mine at bay?

A problem for another day, I suppose.

I’m just about to send Mac another text in our group chat to let him know dinner is here when I hear Harper’s laugh float down the hallway. Like magic, I instantly feel all of the muscles in my body relax. To know that she can still smile after everything she’s been through, that we can make her smile, is like a balm to my cracked soul.

Harper’s eyes meet mine as she emerges from the hallway. Mac gently kisses her on the crown of her head before he gives her a light pat on the ass, and she makes her way over to me. She wraps her arms around my waist, and I lean down so my lips hover above hers. I brush a stray curl away from her eyes to get an unobstructed view of her gorgeous green eyes and those adorable freckles. “How you feeling, Angel?”

“I’m okay.”

I raise a brow at her, and she lightly sighs before relaxing her shoulders as if pretending to put on a strong face. Except she doesn’t need to. I know better than anyone what it feels like to mask your emotions in fear of losing control, and I don’t ever want her to do that around me. I want to be her safe space. A person she can go to with whatever she’s feeling.

“I’ll be okay… eventually. But I am feeling better.”

“You sure?”

“Yes. I know we’ll figure something out. I have you guys to keep me safe. Right?”

I smile and lightly kiss her lips. “Always,” I whisper.

I faintly hear Mac setting the table when the elevator door opens, and the smell of Thai food immediately fills the apartment. Right on cue, I hear Harper’s stomach growl. Blush sweeps across her cheeks as Ronan comes to stand behind her with the food. Uncaring that I’m still holding her in my arms, he bends and kisses her cheek.

“Hey, Baby.”

She turns her head to smile up at him, “Hey.” This time, he kisses her on the mouth, and I hear her stomach rumble again. Ronan smiles against their kiss.

“Hungry?” he asks.

“Starving.”

He winks at her, letting her know he’s asking her about an entirely different kind of hunger, and makes his way toward the table where Mac is now sitting.

“Come on, let’s get you some food, Angel.”

“Damn, that was good,” I groan as I sit back in my chair at the table, beyond full.

“Mhmmm,” Harper nods her head in agreement.

“You should know,” laughs Mac, “You ate helpings of just about everything. I don’t ever think I’ve seen a woman eat that much so fast.” Harper quickly averts her eyes to her lap. Mac instantly notices and grabs her leg under the table from his spot next to her. “Hey, look at me.”
