I watch as he clenches his jaw, assumingly pissed that Mum would give us that information. “Where’s Harper? Shouldn’t you be watching her like I fucking asked you to?”

I clench my fists, willing myself not to snap his neck right here and now for speaking her name. I can practically feel the same rage rolling off Finn and Mac behind me. I just hope they can keep their cool. “She’s back at the apartment. We have two guards watching her at all times. Don’t worry about it.”

“Alright then.”

“Walk with me?” I nod towards one of the docks. Liam steps to the side, gesturing his arm out, waiting for me to lead the way. I walk towards him, stepping around his guards. After a few moments, Mac and Finn follow behind, far enough away, so I can’t hear what’s happening behind me. Neither can Liam. His guards take that as their queue to step back, just like I hoped they would, falling behind Mac and Finn as we all begin walking out onto the long dock.

“What did you need to talk to me about that was so urgent? I only have a few minutes before my meeting.”

There is no more fucking meeting but whatever. “I think I figured out who has been stealing our shipments, but I wanted to run it past you first.”

His step falters. If you didn’t know him like I do, you wouldn’t catch it, but I do, and I did. “Oh yeah?”

“Yeah. I got the word out about a fake shipment that was supposed to arrive the other morning. Had some men camp out here and wait for whoever showed up. Got our hands on three of them. Mac and I interrogated them in the warehouse just over there, actually.”

If he’s getting nervous, he doesn’t let on. He probably thinks I’m too fucking naive to assume he had anything to do with you. Jokes on you, asshole. “You get anything good out of them?”

Real damn good.

“Yeah, one of their names was Max. Never figured out who the other two were. Killed ‘em before they had a chance to talk.” I watch as he swallows hard at the mention of Max’s name. There it is. “Max said he was just following his boss’ orders. Knew nothing about who exactly he was stealing from or why.”

Liam stops midstride, taking a long puff of his cigar as he looks into the distance. Not once does he bother to look over his shoulder to check on his men. Big mistake.“He tell you who his boss is?”

“Nope. Said he never even met them. Only talked to them over the phone. You know what I find strange though?”

“Hmmm?” Another puff of smoke permeates the air around me as I smile to myself. “Said the person he talked to was a woman.” The cigar stills halfway to his mouth. I slowly reach for the gun in my waistband. “That she sounded just like me but with a thicker accent. Only one person that fits that description comes to mind.”

He whirls around in search of his men only to find their lifeless bodies back at the end of the dock and Mac and Finn about five feet behind us. My brother grins, raises his hand, and wiggles his fingers, waving at our pathetic excuse for a father. “Too slow, Pop.”

Liam quickly drops the cigar and moves to reach inside his jacket, but I’m faster. I press my gun to his temple and chamber a round. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing, boy?” He’s practically foaming at the mouth already, and we’ve only just begun.

“What am I doing? The question is, what have you been doing?” Slowly, he spins his head around to face me head-on. I don’t remove my weapon; instead, I slide the barrel from his temple to the middle of his forehead.

“I am your father!”

“You are no father of ours!” Mac shouts as he makes his way towards us, pulling up the sleeves of his black Henley to his elbows, stopping once he’s behind Liam. Finn follows behind him, coming to stand next to the man he once idolized. The three of us are caging him in now, there’s no way out. Judging by the look in his eyes, he knows it.

“You wouldn’t do this to me. Your mother would never forgive you.”

I let out a dark laugh. “You see. That’s where you’re wrong. Mum is currently on a plane to the other side of the world.” His mouth drops open in shock. “We’ve already spoken to her. She told us all about the work she’s been doing for you, making her think she was stealing shipments from Declan Whelan and not her own children. But that’s not all she told us.”

“She told us everything,” Mac says, leaning down to whisper in Liam’s ear. I watch in enjoyment as his soulless eyes widen. “You put your hands on her. On our mother.”

“You can’t take her away from me. She’s mine.”

“Wrong again. She’s not yours. Not anymore. She’s safe from you, and you’ll never see her again.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“No? Then why don’t you explain it to us. I want to know why you ever gave up control to me and us if you weren’t ready.”

Nothing he says will matter anyway. He’s as good as dead. But I want to hear the asshole admit everything. We deserve answers.

“I never wanted to step back. But it was clear I was losing respect. Everyone thought I was some old-timer who didn’t know what he was talking about. Someone who couldn’t keep up. Do you know what that’s like?” His voice raises at the last sentence, but I don’t let it get to me. Neither does Mac or Finn. We’re not scared of him anymore. “What it’s like to be feared and respected by everyone you meet to suddenly be treated like some sort of fucking imbecile? They thought you three could do better, so I decided to prove them all wrong. You couldn’t make that easy for me though, could you?”

“Us succeeding wasn’t enough for you? We were exactly what you turned us into. We did everything you asked of us. We were good sons.” I can hear the sadness in my brother’s voice, and it’s like a knife to my fucking chest.

“Please,” Liam scoffs. “The three of you are a fucking embarrassment. You’re too soft, too weak. You would have run this syndicate into the ground. Everything I’ve worked for, everything I’ve handed you on a silver fucking platter, would have gone down the drain! For Christ’s sake, I’ve been stealing from you for months, and you had no fucking idea. You’re a goddamn disgrace!”
