“Yes, Ronan. I saw him when I was leaving the coffee shop. He was standing across the street just fucking staring at me, then before I could do anything, he was just-just gone.”
“Did he follow you here?”
“I don’t think so. I just tried to get back here as fast as I could. I couldn’t call because my goddamn phone is dead.” I inhale sharply. “But Ronan, I’ve never been to that coffee shop before. It was just some random place I picked to get Harper a drink. That means—”
“That means he was following you.” Ronan’s previously calm voice is now laced with anxiety.
“And if he was following me, who’s to say someone isn’t following them?”
His hands fall from my shoulders as he takes a few steps back. “Jesus fuck.”
“Wh-where are they, Ronan?” The shake in my voice surprises the both of us. I’m slipping, and I don’t know how to fucking stop it.
Pulling his phone out of his pocket, Ronan finds Mac’s contact and puts the phone to his ear. A moment later, the elevator door opens, and the ringing of Mac’s phone breaks through the tense silence.
“Jesus Christ, Ronan,” Mac laughs. “I know you love me, but you just called me five minutes ago.”
Harper’s carefree laugh almost causes a sob to break through my lips.
The two stop dead in their tracks as they take in the panic-stricken looks on our faces. “Love, what’s going on?”
Instead of answering, I share a look with Ronan, silently asking him to explain everything to Mac because I can feel them—they’re screaming at me, telling me how easy it would have been for him to get to her today. They’re making me feel irrevocably out of control. The demons that I keep tucked away in the deepest parts of me, doing everything in my power to keep them at bay, they’re trying to swallow me whole.
I need her. I need her to slay my demons.
“Go. I’ll talk to Mac.”
I don’t give it a second thought. Marching over, I grab Harper’s hand from Mac’s, set the small stack of books she has in her other hand on the counter next to her forgotten coffee, and roughly pull her behind me down the hall toward my room. In the background, I hear the low rumble of Ronan’s voice as he fills Mac in on this afternoon’s events.
“Finn, what’s wrong? What’s going on?”
I don’t answer her. I can’t. My mind has one sole focus right now. I need to regain control. To use her body and strip her bare. I need to watch as she submits to my every demand. I need her to fall apart beneath my touch exactly how I want her to.
Part of me worries she’s not ready for this, but that won’t stop me.
I shove Harper into my room and slam the door closed behind me. She spins to face me, eyes wide with panic and fear. But that’s not all I see. Her thighs are clenched together in excitement, chest heaving with bated breath. She’s spinning Ronan’s ring around her thumb, which I’ve come to find is her new habit when she’s anxious. She’s anxious because she sees the wild look in my eyes. The look that lets her know what’s in store for her.
She might be more ready for this than either of us thought.
“Strip, Angel. Now.”

Harper
“Finn, I–I don’t know if I’m—”
“You are, Harper. You’re ready,” he answers calmly as he moves to sit on the end of his bed. After removing his shoes and socks, he rests his elbows on his knees. His dirty blond hair falls over his forehead in the most delicious way when he looks up at me, where I’m still frozen by the door.
“Finn, what’s going on?”
He scrubs a hand down his face, and for a moment, he looks panicked. I take a step, and he holds his hand out. “Not now, Harper. I’ll explain everything later. Right now, I just . . . I just need you. I need us. Okay?”
Can I do this?
I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know if I’m ready for the way Finn pushes me. But I do know that I love him. I know that for him to be clearly displaying so much uncontrolled emotion, something has shaken him to his core. More than anything, though, I know I’m safe with him. Safe to swim in the darkest of our desires.
He won’t just push me to the edge. He’ll throw me over it.
