“What time is your limo coming to take you to the airport?”

It took her a minute to clear her head from his mind-altering kiss to answer. “Ahh, 9:00 o’clock. Why, what time is it?”

He looked at his watch. “8:45.”

They’d been at it for a while.

She sprang to her feet. “Oh my God. I didn’t realize how late it was. I need to get going.” Was she losing her mind, letting time slip away like that and nearly forgetting about her trip? How could she let herself get so distracted?

Her gaze landed on his mouth. His glorious, soft, yet firm, knowing lips were to blame for the diversion. If she didn’t stop looking at his mouth this instant, she’d surely miss her flight.

She slipped into her shoes and headed for the entryway closet. Joe followed and helped her with her coat. He zipped it for her and then slipped his arms around her and pulled her to him.

Dipping his head, he claimed her lips again, engaging in another mind-altering kiss. Her heart skipped a beat. Her knees grew so weak she was sure she would have fallen if he hadn’t been holding her.

He released her from the kiss, but still held her. “Call me when you get to your hotel so I know you made it safely.”

“Okay.”

“Have a good trip. We’ll miss you.”

The sincerity in his gaze reaffirmed his words. They would miss her, and not just him, the kids too.

Her fluttering heart nearly prevented her from speaking. “I’ll miss you guys, too. All of you.” Her voice shook with her response. Though she meant her words, the extreme level of conviction in her heart as she spoke scared her.

Chapter Thirteen

Elizabeth boarded her plane and snuggled into her first-class seat hoping to nap along the way. She hoped to check into her hotel room at the Waldorf within a few hours in order to get some solid shut-eye before the training sessions began early the next morning.

As she leaned her head back and closed her eyes, a shiver of excitement coursed through her. She missed the New York office and couldn’t wait to get there to remind herself of what she desired and longed for; her destiny to manage that office.

At last, the plane took off, but sleep wouldn’t come. Thoughts of Joe and the kids occupied her mind; she missed them already. Though she hadn’t really known Joe that long, she knew he was a good, honest, hard-working man, and she’d wanted to stay with him tonight.

The visions of Joe reeling through her head were so vivid she could actually feel the warmth of his large hands surrounding her cheeks, just like she’d felt hours earlier as his glorious lips pressed softly against hers. Her mouth tingled at the memory of how his tongue had gently caressed hers. She’d wanted more of him, and had never before in her life experienced need as overwhelming as she did tonight.

Elizabeth settled into her hotel suite at the Waldorf. It was nearly 2:30 a.m. when she dialed Joe’s phone number on her cell phone as he had requested, but she pressed ‘end’ before it rang. She hated the thought of waking him, and decided to wait and call him later, after a few hours of sleep.
