Edwardo growled at him; his words forced between his teeth. “It’s pack business. The only information she requires is the location and time for her patrol with us. The rest has nothing to do with her training as a full-fledged beta.”

Roberto growled back but showed his submission to his brother. No one else spoke out in my defense and the meeting proceeded with more personal orders of each warrior’s shift and location for their patrols.

I looked down at my hands on the table and let out a grunt to acknowledge the meeting place with Edwardo and the start time of my patrol. When everyone else left, I remained in my seat and went over the little bit of information I had gathered about this burned rogue.

I knew that he shifted to a golden wolf. Brady had mentioned his hair color, and despite the rogue clearly keeping his hair cut short, it stood to reason that Brady knew this wolf from a time he didn’t keep his hair in such a style.

Brady had become distracted during the meeting with his father by the mention of one rogue. He kept his eyes locked on me until this rogue was mentioned. This specific rogue was just one of many feral rogues that had been reported. A rogue with a burned face was the one everyone didn’t want to talk about.

Brady who would harness the sun’s fire as his personal gift in magic. The Summer Solstice Witch himself. Is it possible?

I frowned; my gaze finally moved from my clasped hands to the clock on the wall. It was late already. I had been sitting here for hours obsessing over this situation, but now I knew where I might find my answers.

I stood and ran from the room towards the stairs and onto the alpha family floor, but as my feet stopped in front of Brady’s room, I could tell by his faint scent he had not been to his room for a while.

His scent sent shivers along my skin as I turned around to sniff out the freshest trail. I felt the bond celebrating when I sought him out. It was as though my body thought that it meant I would finally give in to The Fates’ demand.

The sweet scent led me past the offices of the alpha and then the luna. Even though it wasn’t as potent, I could sense that it was the most recent route he had taken through the house. The very path I had seen him begin directly after the meeting we had cut short.

I frowned as I continued down through the corridors towards the common wings. The closer I got down the hall, the more I realized where the scent was leading me.

As I stepped into the library, I looked around at the darkened room with awe. I hadn’t been in this room since I was a child, and it wasn’t even half as filled as it is now. A true testament to the growth the pack had seen since Diana and Orion took over.

Shelf after shelf now filled with books of different eras. Both originals and reprints on subjects of the ancient world of magic that we all descend from. I had never seen anything like it before. At least not in a packhouse library. Not to this magnitude.

As I continued in, Brady’s scent finally drew stronger, and at the end of the last row of shelves, I found the soft glow of light to now follow with his scent.

He slumped over a desk, blanket over his shoulders, from the built-in beds along the wall beside him. His eyes were focused on the text before him and as I approached, I could just make out a few words on the page.

“A prophecy?”

Just as I was about to continue reading, Brady closed the book, turned around, and flashed me a smile that made me wonder what he was hiding. It was clearly an old text, the riddle like message exactly as the prophecies I had seen Paige write out occasionally.

“What brings you here?” Brady asked as he ignored my question.

I narrowed my eyes at him and did my best to ignore the thumping of my heart as I looked down at him.

“You,” I answered.

“Oh?” His eyes lit up a bit, and he leaned his cheek against his fist.

“I have questions, and something tells me that you are the only one in this place that will answer them for me.”

“Well then,” Brady chuckled. “I hope I don’t disappoint you.”

Chapter Six

Brady

I couldn’t help but smile as Madie circled around the table to the opposite side and gracefully took a seat. Her eyes locked on the book with curiosity as she moved.

Her comprehension of the prophecy’s significance astonished me. I knew that her luna was a powerful seer herself, so I could only assume that she recognized them from watching her.

“What are your questions, Tinkerbell?” I asked her. I couldn’t help but smile as I resisted the urge to laugh at her response to the nickname I had bestowed upon her. I wondered if she figured out why I dubbed her the green fairy yet.

Did she know it was because when I looked at her, I could almost see a glow around her? Did she realize that the thought of her was my happiest thought now? That just a single look from her had me flying through the sky straight on until morning?

It helped also that she resembled the little fairy creature with her blonde hair and blue eyes. Give her a pair of iridescent wings and she would be the spitting image.
