“You may kiss the bride,” Tom, who’s dressed in his police uniform, says as he stands before us in our back yard.

I look at my beautiful bride with a smile. Even eight months pregnant, she takes my breath away. My hand moves up to cup her jaw as I pull her mouth to mine. I kiss her with everything I am as our guests clap and cheer.

When we finally decided our lives were meant to be spent together, this isn’t exactly the wedding I had in mind. I thought for sure we’d have some big, fancy wedding with an expensive dress and big party afterwards. When Emery suggested this, it was yet another thing making me realize she was the one for me. It’s like we are thinking on the same wavelength. She can read my mind, and I can always fulfill her every wish.

Instead of wasting money on a big dress and reception hall, we decided to have an intimate ceremony here in the backyard. The whole police force is here in uniform. Our local friends, my family, and even her family made the trip down to be part of our special day. I was surprised when Allison asked to come, but Emery handled it with grace just like she always does.

Emery and I are a united front when it comes to Allison. We started things slow, allowing her to come and see Ava once a month. She always showed up and she never flaked so once a month became twice a month, then three times, then every weekend. Now, she’s officially made the move back to town and Ava stays the night with her every other weekend. It’s a nice break for Emery and now that we have a baby of our own on the way. And it’s good for Ava too, getting to spend some one-on one time with her mother who really has seemed to change for the better. Somehow, everything worked out perfectly and I couldn’t ask for more.

I kiss her and walk back down the aisle and into the house while the party planners change the backyard seating from wedding aisles to tables and chairs for the dinner portion of the evening. Keeping her hand in mine, I pull her through the kitchen and into the laundry room, closing the door behind her.

“What are you doing?” she asks, laughing as my hands move to her hips and start gathering her dress up her legs.

“We have fifteen minutes tops before someone comes looking for us. I’ve had a boner all day from looking at you in this dress.” I kiss her neck and spin her around so her back is against my chest.

Her hands move up and flatten against the wall. “You’re impossible.”

I bite the nape of her neck as I pull her panties down. “I’m not impossible. I’m just totally in love with you.”

The End

EPILOGUE

I can’t stand my new neighbor. Too bad he's hotter than my morning coffee.

Fresh start after divorce, in a new country home, I am drawn to Xander, a retired car racer with a damaged soul.

The town warns me he is an outcast and an accused murderer. He is bad, they say. Stay away.

Yet my safety takes a back seat to his ripped physique and brooding presence.

One night, against my better judgment, our paths collide. I discover a man haunted yet longing for a new beginning.

With every step, I too risk becoming an outcast in this town. A dangerous journey, filled with tempting desires looms ahead.

And I ask myself if it’s just a fling or the start of a new love story.
