“It was,” I admitted. “But there’s one thing that we haven’t done yet.”

“Had sex in a bed rather than at your place of business?” Ally teased.

“Well, yeah...that.” I made a face when I said the words, and Ally’s eyebrows shot up in question. “I’m not sure we can do that. Wanting to have sex with him in a bed in one of our apartments, just feels too intimate.”

“So you’d prefer it to be just some quick fucks here and there?” she asked me.

I wasn’t sure how to reply to that. So, I shrugged. “I don’t know. We agreed to no more games, which I’m fine with. But we haven’t actually talked about why he left me.”

“Ah,” Ally said, nodding. “And you’re too scared to have this conversation with him because then he’s going to want to know what Chad did to you. Correct?”

“Yes, that’s the only reason I’m letting it go. He pushed once before. He pretty much said, ‘I’ll show you mine if you show me yours’,” I giggled and Ally laughed along with me.

“But he already did show you his—again and again from the sounds of it,” Ally teased.

I blushed and looked over at my desk chair for a moment, studying it.

“Is sitting there going to be difficult today? Do you keep picturing it?”

“It might be. He was amazing.”

“This is so not like you. I love it,” Ally said. “Look at you getting some and having fun while doing it. This is that spark you’ve been missing, this is it. I’m happy for you, Mia.”

“Thanks,” I replied. “I just hope I know what I’m doing.”

“I do too,” Ally said, reaching over to squeeze my hand. “It’s you and Terry. He knows what he did to you before, and I don’t think he’ll repeat that mistake. I don’t think he’d hurt you like that again. You just have to be willing to open yourself up to him and tell him. He’ll understand, and he won’t hate you for it. This is Terry, for God’s sake; the man that once rented out an entire honky-tonk bar when you turned twenty-three.”

I laughed along with her, remembering the night she was talking about. “I tried to explain to him that my twenty-third birthday was not that big of a deal. But he wouldn’t listen.”

“No, he wouldn’t. But I think he would this time,” Ally said, giving me a knowing look.

A knock on the door caused both of us to jump.

“Hey, ladies,” a silky voice said from the door.

“Hey, Terry,” we both said in unison.

Terry made his way into the office, laughing.

“What are you gals up to this morning?”

“Just catching up and diving into the day,” Ally said with a wide smile.

Too wide of a smile—he saw right through it. “Filling her in, huh?” A shit-eating grin covered his face.

“Maybe,” I replied, trying to play it cool. But I knew there was no use.

“It’s okay, I don’t mind. Tell her all about it. Tell her all about the office gymnastics we performed,” he teased.

“Shut up,” I hissed. “You left the door open. Someone could hear you.”

“It’s barely seven thirty, Mia. I think it’ll be fine,” he said, coming over to me and placing a kiss on my head. “I would like to do more, but I’m not sure what your rule is about this yet.”

“I think you can have a good morning kiss,” I said, standing up. My hands went around his neck, and I slowly pulled him to me. Our lips met and began dancing together slowly. His tongue entered my mouth, and I let out a low moan.

“Uh, guys, as happy and surprised by all of this as I am, you’ve gotta stop. People are going to be coming into work shortly, and they don’t want to hear you two going at it like teens,” Ally scolded.

“Sorry, Ally,” we said in unison.
