Atlas feigned a yawn. "Yeah, but it's not as fun."

I grinned, shaking my head as I dismantled my rifle. "Honestly bro, I don't know how you sleep at night."

"Like a baby that just suckled their momma's breast."

Laughing, I slammed the case shut and reached for my phone that was vibrating in my pocket. Staring at the screen, my laughter ceased as I read the text.

Nico, I need you. Come immediately.

"What is it?" Atlas grunted.

"Our girl needs us," I said grimly, holding up the phone. “Let’s go.”

Atlas drove like the devil was after him, and by the time we reached the hospital my mind was going into overdrive. I burst through the door and into Catalina's room, thinking the worse.

"I came as soon as I could. What’s happened?" My eyes darted around the room, my heart beating rapidly in my chest, but I saw nothing of note. "Catalina, what is it?"

"Nico! You have to get me out of here!"

I looked at her in confusion, my eyes slowly widening as she explained about nurse Antonia.

"Are you sure?" Maybe the drugs she was on had confused her even more than her already scrambled memories, but she nodded adamantly.

"Okay. Wait right here."

"No!" She grabbed my arm, clinging tight. "Please don't leave me."

“Catalina, I'll be right outside the door. I just want to confirm at the nurse's station what they know."

She pulled my arm down so we were face to face, and I could see that the panic had given way to anger. Her dark blue eyes flaring.

"Nico, if I tell you something, you better damn well listen. Get. Me. Out. Of. Here!"

I chuckled, "Alright. Alright. Calm down, Angel face."

As I detached the cables from her hand and threw back the covers, Atlas came bursting through the door.

"Atty, grab all Catalina's stuff and let's go. I'll fill you in on the way."

"Where are we going?"

I looked at Catalina, "Our place. There's no place safer."

I pulled her good arm around my neck and lifted her from the bed and into the waiting wheelchair, then slowly wheeled her out of the room. Almost instantly, a nurse appeared.

"What is the meaning of this? You should be in bed, resting."

"I'm checking out. I want to go home."

"But-,"

"Now!"

The nurse glared at her but turned and bustled a short distance away and grabbed a clipboard.

"Here. Fill out this discharge form. Even though it's your decision to leave, I highly recommend you stay here. You'll need someone to care for you."

Catalina scoffed, taking the clipboard, and filling out the details before pointing at myself and Atty with her pen.
