Sam’s mouth twisted into a wry grin. “I don’t know if that’s good or bad.”

“It’s good,” Laurel answered. “This is a huge step for me. You and Daisy will offer different perspectives, but each will be honest.”

“Are you planning to buy a building or rent one?” Daisy asked.

“I’m not sure. The one we’ll see today is for sale.”

Daisy glanced over at Laurel. “Who’s the owner?”

“It’s a trust.” She opened a file folder to scan the details on the first document. “WJGB Trust.”

Daisy shot her another quick look. “Say that again.”

“WJGB Trust.”

Snorting a chuckle, Daisy parked in front of the building Laurel wanted to see.

“What is it?”

Turning off the engine, Daisy grinned. “How convenient.”

“What’s convenient?” Sam asked.

“WJGB Trust stands for Wyatt Jonah Gage Bonner. It’s one of at least three trusts Anson and Margie established. WJGB is for their sons. Wyatt told me one of the others is a charitable trust. I don’t know what the others are for.”

“Interesting,” Laurel said. “I wonder why Anson and Margie are selling.”

“Anson and Margie are probably the only two who know. This could be a good thing for you, Laurel.”

“How’s that?”

“Margie might be flexible with the price.”

“And Anson?”

Daisy thought a moment. “Only Anson knows the answer to that. Are you ready to see it?”

“Absolutely.”

A short, rotund woman with graying hair and a broad smile met them at the front door. “Good morning, ladies. I’m Juneau Jacobs, the listing agent.”

After introductions, she unlocked the door. “Before you go inside, I’d like to give you a little history. The building was built in 1935. It was a retail store below with a large apartment on the second floor. The last tenant was a cafe, open for twenty-five years before the owner retired. As you can see, the bank is on one side, and an office building on the other. Mostly, the tenants in that building are independent professionals, such as accountants, attorneys, land appraisers, and the like. Take your time looking around. The upstairs is open. I think you’re going to like what you see.”

“The building is for sale, correct?” Laurel asked.

“Yes. Though, the owners might be willing to offer a lease for the right tenant.”

“With an option to purchase?”

“If they approve you as a tenant, I’m sure they’d be willing to consider an option. The first step is to decide if the space fits your needs.” Juneau motioned for them to enter.

Seconds ticked by before Laurel voiced her first impression. “Oh, my. Look at all the beautiful woodwork.”

Sam’s gaze moved over the space. “It doesn’t look like much now, but there’s a lot of potential.”

Laurel looked around, giving a slow nod. “You’re right.”

“And the soda counter,” Sam added. “Did you ever eat here, Daisy?”
