“Plus, Aiden Winters is here with a couple other deputies.” Quinn drank the last of his water. “Benny felt bad about having to leave.”

Jake took a seat next to Logan. “How long will he be gone?”

“A week.” Quinn tossed his bottle onto a pile of material to be recycled. “He’ll come back here when he’s finished.”

“Another Wagyu beef rancher?” Jake asked.

“I didn’t ask, but that is his specialty.”

“Hey, boys. Are any of you hungry?” Sam approached, holding a large box in one hand and a bag filled with bottles of water in the other.

“What are you offering?” Logan flashed her a smile.

She peeked inside. “Let’s see. Pizza, pizza, and, oh yes…pizza.”

Logan laughed. “Pizza all around.”

Handing the box to Jake, she set down the bag, taking a water bottle for herself. “The pizza was donated to us. Amanda and Mark Swanson brought them by. He said they were real sorry they couldn’t help.”

“That’s the woman who demonstrated barrel racing, right?” Logan took another large bite of pizza.

Sam nodded. “They were returning from another of Mark’s doctor visits in Hobson.” She nibbled at her pizza.

“Don’t like it?” Logan nodded at her cheese, pepperoni, and sausage slice.

She glanced at him. “I like it fine.”

Jake opened his bottle of water. “I heard Mark’s prognosis for recovery is pretty good. It’ll just take a long time.”

“I heard their money is running out.” Quinn took another slice of pizza from the box.

“Where’d you hear that?” Jake asked.

“Barrel. He’s pretty good friends with Mark. Wish there was something we could do.”

Jake pursed his lips. “Let’s talk to Wyatt and Virgil. And probably Barrel. There has to be a way to help Mark through this.”

“Could be as simple as a few of us helping out a few hours each week. I’d be willing to help,” Logan said.

Sam nodded. “If it goes that way, you can count me in.”

“I’ll mention your idea to Wyatt,” Jake said. “Changing the subject. Has anyone heard more about the person who set the fire?”

Quinn shook his head. “You’d be in the best position to know, Jake.”

“Only what Laurel Maddox told Aiden.” Jake swiped his hands down his already dirty jeans. “Not much more we can do tonight. Might as well head home.”

Logan caught Sam’s attention. “Are you still up for heading to town?”

“Not for dinner. But music and dancing would be fun after the week we’ve had.”

“Give me thirty minutes, and I’ll pick you up.”

“Make that forty-five.”

Logan gave her a mock salute. “Forty-five it is.”
