“I couldn’t help myself. She’s the most beautiful woman on the ranch.”

Slipping his arm around Sam’s waist, Logan kissed her. “She is that. How are you, Deputy?”

“Good. Still hoping to find Miguel and arrest him. Other than him, Brilliance is a peaceful town.” Aiden’s attention shifted across the room, landing on Laurel.

“You should ask her out.”

He looked over at Sam. “Who?”

“Laurel, of course.”

Laughing, Aiden shook his head. “She doesn’t want anything to do with me. Not since I had to ask questions about the fires here at the ranch.”

“We heard about that,” Logan said.

“I’ll bet you did,” Aiden replied. “I do like her. Sometimes, things don’t work out as you’d like. Except right here with you and Sam. Have you decided where you’re going to live?”

“For now, at my cabin. We’ll figure it out from there.”

A phone vibrating caught their attention. Aiden slipped his from a pocket. “Looks like I need to go. Let me know if there’s anything I can do for you.” He started to leave, then turned back. “I mean that.”

Sam smiled at him. “Thanks, Aiden.”

“He’s a good man,” Logan said.

“There seems to be an overabundance of them here today.”

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing. Just a comment.”

“I have some news, Sam.”

She turned to face him. “Oh. What is it?”

Taking her hand, he drew her away from the reception crowd and into the large barn, then down the center between the stalls. When she started to open her mouth, he kissed her. After a while, he lifted his head.

“I love you, Mrs. Sawyer.”

“I love you, too. Now, tell me. What news do you have?”

He pulled a card from the inside pocket of his coat, handing it out to Sam.

She scanned the card, her brows furrowing. “Who is this?”

“Never met him until today. He was in the area and stopped by. Had no idea there was a wedding taking place.”

“Mr. Fred Salvato, Attorney at Law. Why would he be looking for you?”

“He said Mom hired him to take care of her affairs.”

“What affairs?”

“That’s what I asked him, Sam. Salvato told me Mom retained him to write her will and prepare a trust. He’s been out of the country on vacation, not learning about Mom’s death until he returned last week. Seems my mother had a few dollars with a financial firm. I always thought she lived paycheck to paycheck. The attorney said that wasn’t the case.” Logan shrugged. “Or maybe it was the case. She lived frugally and banked every extra dollar. She’d been doing it since her first job as a teenager working in a fast-food place.”

“But she rented her small house and drove an old car,” Sam said.

“She rented a house, but owned two apartment buildings in Cheyenne. Both are almost paid off. She lived off the rents, not her income at the law firm. Her paycheck was direct deposited into an investment account.”

“Is there enough for us to buy a house?”

Laughing, he picked her up and swung her around. “More than enough, sweetheart. More than enough.”
