-There better not be. I wouldn't spare his life.

-I know you don't want these people to know your true identity. But I won't be able to control myself much longer if he touches you one more time.

-You are mine. Your lips are only mine to touch. Only I feed you. Only I take care of you. No other man but me has that privilege.

-So help me God if he looks at you like that one more time, Luna...I will rip his motherfucking head off.

Reading his texts ignited a fire within me. The nerve of Adrik, still thinking he could control who I'm with after everything. I needed to show him that his influence over my life was a thing of the past. Unlocking the door, I returned to the table, casually sliding my fingers along Simon's arm.

I nonchalantly brought up a new bowling place in town and invited him to join me, asking him out on a date. Simon's excitement was contagious, and when he inquired about the time, I settled on eight pm. His happiness over spending time with me fueled my determination to move forward with him, regardless of Adrik’s opinion.

Christy was buzzing with joy, exclaiming, "Finally!" Her infectious enthusiasm made me giggle, and we chatted for a while before deciding to call it a night.

Christy kindly offered to drive us back home, and my apartment was the nearest, so she dropped me off first. I gave Peanut a loving kiss before heading to bed. However, sleep eluded me as my mind continued to churn with a mix of emotions, lingering on the events of the day.

I knew that what I did was not healthy. I was stringing Simon along. He was an amazing man, any woman would be lucky to have him. He was funny, sweet, and handsome. But I feltnothing for him. His touch even made me uncomfortable. I was experimenting with him, and that made guilt simmer within me.

Not to mention, I was well aware that this wouldn’t end well. Adrik would surely follow me tomorrow, and seeing me with Simon would make him go crazy. He was giving me a little space and maintaining my fake identity here, but if he caught wind of my date… I could guarantee that won’t be the same.

Chapter 9

Luna

?Getting ready for my date with Simon, I was a jumbled mess of nerves. It felt like Adrik was haunting me, observing every move. I applied mascara and brushed on some blush. I wanted to look like I had put effort in my appearance because Simon always did. Lastly, I sprayed perfume and threw on my sneakers.

Anxiously checking my phone, Adrik's text hit me like a jump scare: -Blue looks good on you.

How the hell did he know I chose a blue hoodie? Frantically, I darted to the windows, half-expecting to catch a glimpse of him stalking me, but the surroundings remained eerily quiet and empty. I felt like I was going insane. If not for these infuriating texts, I might have dismissed every other sign of him as a figment of my imagination.

-Where are you headed? He had the audacity to text, and a vein practically popped out of my forehead.

-None of your damn business.I shot back, throwing my rule of not contacting him out the window. My need to put him in his place overrode any semblance of common sense.

-It is my business, Milaya. Everything concerning you is my business.I rolled my eyes so far back in my head that I was afraid they'd get stuck.

-It isn't. Shouldn't you be putting your nose in Elena’s business instead?I fired back.

-I don't care about her at all. She means nothing to me.

-Shame on you!I typed with a violent tap, almost shattering my phone screen.-You already made the decision to cheat on me, with my sister nonetheless. You ruined us.

With a sigh, I continued, -So, salvage what you have left. You have a baby on the way; act like it!

As I left my apartment, my phone buzzed insistently with his call. Seriously? Did he not understand that I no longer wanted him? Fed up, I rejected his call, hoping he'd take a hint. But, oh no, Mr. Persistence dialed again. Annoyance rising, I hit the power button, shutting off my phone.

Tonight was about exploring this thing with Simon and me. Adrik's disruptions wouldn't spoil it. I took a cab to the bowling place, my fingers fidgeted nervously. A gut feeling told me trouble was brewing.

Adrik despised the thought of me being with other men, and this date with Simon was pushing his limits. I couldn't shake the sense that his reaction might be explosive when he discovered I was out with someone else.

Walking up to Simon once I arrived, I tried to shake off the remnants of Adrik's pestering texts. "Hopefully you didn't wait for me long?" I asked, my nerves still evident.

He grinned and shook his head, "No, I've only been here for about five minutes." Relief washed over me as we made our way to the bowling alley. I didn’t want to make a bad impression or show that I didn’t care much for him romantically.

As Simon playfully nudged me, I grabbed a bowling ball, set on enjoying myself. Focusing on the pins, I threw the ball, only for it to veer wildly off course, missing every pin. I stomped in frustration—losing was not my forte.

Simon chuckled at my failed attempt, and as he grabbed a ball, he effortlessly knocked down every pin on his first try. I was impressed with his skill.

"Was that just luck, or are you that good?" I asked, genuinely curious. He leaned in, whispering suggestively, "I am that good. This isn't the only thing I'm good at." The innuendo hung in the air, but I chose to ignore it, focusing on the game instead. "Teach me?" I requested.
