“What are you doing, Ezra?” Her voice was a tempting play.

I quirked her a grin. “I thought I told you it was time someone started spoiling you?”

And that didn’t always mean material things. It often meant attention and care.

“You’re pretty good at it, this spoiling thing.” Aqua eyes peered over at me.

I brushed a lock of hair back from her face, my thumb grazing her cheek. “Get used to it.”

I recognized the things that kept coming from my mouth.

The permanency.

The promises.

The forevers.

I shut her door and jogged around the front of the truck and climbed in. I slowly wound back down the hidden trail, carefully, the lights cutting through the night that had grown thick. Savannah wasn’t nervous this time, she just rested back against the seat, her head tilted so she was continuously looking at me.

I reached out and set my hand on her thigh as we drove back to Time River beneath the cover of the stars. Again, no words were needed, there was just that same profound comfort that wound between us.

And when I pulled onto my street, I squeezed her leg where my hand still rested. “I don’t want to take you back to the guest house, Savannah.”

“Good, because I don’t want you to take me back, either.”

FORTY-FOUR

SAVANNAH

The garage door rolled open, and Ezra pulled his truck inside and shut off the engine. He didn’t say anything when he cut me a glance before he got out, but whatever was hidden in that look had me both pinned and vibrating on the seat.

Anticipation twitched through my nerves as I watched him stride around the front of the truck so he could get to my door.

I couldn’t move.

I was frozen.

Held to a mounting thrill that bubbled in my belly.

Apparently, whatever quiet we had fallen into on the way home had been the calm before the storm. Tranquil, lapping flames before we were doused in gasoline.

Because the second Ezra opened the passenger door, a frenzy lit.

“Come here, Little Trespasser,” he growled, and he hauled me out with those massive arms, and I had no chance to find my footing before he had me pinned to a cabinet.

In the same second, his mouth captured mine.

This kiss? It was blistering.

Searing.

Scarring in a way that made me sure I would never be the same.

His hands were all over me, grappling to touch me everywhere.

I did the same to him.

Wanting to touch.

Taste.

Explore.

I dove into the kiss with everything that I had.

There was no longer any holding back.

Ezra groaned into my mouth as we spun. He knocked into a workbench, and a bunch of tools clattered to the concrete floor. It wasn’t enough to slow or stop us.

We were too consumed by this scorching kiss to notice what we were knocking into.

The hood of his truck, a bicycle that toppled to the side, a stack of plastic bins.

We spun and spun as we vied to get closer, hands and mouths desperate, tearing at each other’s clothes as his tongue stroked against mine.

Powerfully.

Urgently.

Frantically.

My back slammed into the interior door that led into the house.

He blindly grappled behind me to get to the knob, and the door swung open to the darkness of his house. He backed me inside, his kiss unrelenting. I hit the hallway wall with a thud, and my chest arched in a plea as both of his hands went to my breasts.

“Fuck me, Savannah, what you’ve done to me.” It was a grumble at my mouth, and I felt the severity of it roll through me like possession.

My hands flew to his shoulders to keep from falling, and my knees went weak as Ezra kissed me into oblivion, his thumbs rubbing over the sensitive peaks of my nipples.

“Ezra,” I whimpered. He swallowed it down, and without breaking the kiss, he hiked me into his arms. My legs wrapped around his waist.

He palmed one of my ass cheeks while the other wound into my hair.

I rose up high, swept in a frenzy as I rubbed myself against him, my arms around his neck as I kissed him back just as relentlessly as he kissed me.

He began to walk, carrying me through the shadows of his house. He moved all the way through the living room and kitchen, his mouth fervent against mine as he carried me into his room. Lamps burned from the nightstands, his room cast in a buttery glow of decadent warmth.

The air diffused in a glittering gold.

He set me back on my feet, kissing me more, hands on my face as we spun and spun.

Dizzying.

Perfecting.

“Please,” I mumbled, not even quite sure what I was begging him for.

I just needed it—I needed him.

He pulled back to stare down at my face with his hands on either side of my neck. “I might not have taken you up that mountain with the intention of getting you naked, but you should know that’s exactly what I intend right now.”
