He snorted, then kissed her hard before he withdrew carefully from her. “We get into my penthouse—fast.”

He placed her onto her feet, and somehow their passion dissolved into fits of laughter as they grabbed their clothes and shoved open the door, stumbling inside before slamming the door shut again.

They were still laughing when Liam drew her into his bedroom. She lay on the bed, and he turned serious as he bent and kissed her again. His eyes glowing, he said huskily, “Don’t go anywhere, wildflower. I need to dispose of this condom so I can fill another. But not before I feast on your delectable pussy.”

Harper woke slowly, luxuriating in having Liam’s strong arms wrapped around her as his hard body spooned her, his bare skin warm against hers. She savored it—for just a moment—before she carefully extricated herself from his clasp.

All the while she ignored the voice screaming inside her head to stay, to linger for even just a few moments longer. Except those minutes might well turn into hours and she was fighting the need to leave hard enough already.

Pulling on her underwear and then her jeans and top, she glanced one last time at the man who’d brought her whole body alive. His blond hair gleamed in the dawn light that streamed through the window, his bare ass slightly whiter than the rest of his body.

He mumbled something in his sleep, then reached for her, somehow staying asleep even as he groaned in denial at her absence.

Shit. It was time to go.

She couldn’t do an awkward goodbye. Best to go like a wraith in the early morning, and leave him sleep off his big night. She smiled. He’d been ravenous and hadn’t fallen asleep until an hour or so before the crack of dawn.

“Goodbye, Liam,” she said softly.

Touching her jeans pocket to make sure her shell was still inside; she walked out of his bedroom and toward the door that led into the sitting room. She had yet to grab her clutch bag and car keys from the locker in the conference room. Luckily she and the other girls had been informed they had access to the lockers until midday the next day after the auction.

It wasn’t until she pressed the elevator button and the doors slid open with the slightest hiss that a weight lifted off her shoulders.

She was free.

She pressed a hand to her stomach. That there was a hard lump inside meant little. She’d miss Liam a whole lot more this time around. Though she might have also missed out on the money needed to make her bed and breakfast a reality, it didn’t mean there weren’t any other options. She’d work hard at turning the vision she and her dad had had into reality.

Perhaps work would be the one way she might eventually forget about the man who’d pleasured her so thoroughly.

Or perhaps she was delusional and she’d yet to accept wishes were for fools and dreams didn’t always come true.

Chapter Eight

Liam opened his eyes with a harsh exhale.
