She bit her bottom lip. “I can’t.”

“Then stop overthinking. Some things are just meant to be.”

She squeezed her eyes closed. “Perhaps you’re right.”

“I know I am,” he said huskily.

Surely she couldn’t deny their chemistry?

She didn’t.

Flicking off the air conditioner, she took hold of his hand and led him from the lounge room to a bedroom on the ground level that appeared to be self-contained.

Then all his peripheral awareness faded as he became lost in the moment with her.

Chapter Eleven

Liam woke feeling as content and relaxed as he’d ever been. There was something to be said about lovemaking and fresh country air. A magpie warbled outside the window as though serenading them, its song making him smile.

Except, he was already smiling. He’d succeeded in winning over Harper, at least in bed, now he had to win over her heart. Anything less was unacceptable.

Though he was tempted to wake her by burying his dick between her thighs once again, he resisted the idea and instead climbed out of bed. She’d need her sleep after he’d woken her three times to enjoy her body while bringing her to orgasmic bliss.

She rolled onto her back, muttering something incomprehensible, then she relaxed and breathed evenly once again as she slipped back into a deep sleep. He paused, looking down at her tanned arms on top of the white bed sheets, her strawberry-blonde hair in disarray around her head and the globes of her perfect breasts that were half-exposed.

He swallowed back an urge to uncover her completely and stare at her perfection, but that wasn’t a gentlemanly thing to do. He was here to earn her trust, not take it away.

He stalked into her bathroom, all but wincing at the ghastly green-faded-to-yellow tiles. He’d bet Harper normally woke up at the crack of dawn, it’d do her good to sleep in.

After indulging in a quick, hot shower—she might rely solely on tank water—he wrapped a towel around his hips and went outside to grab his bag from out of his car.

He had three changes of clothes. It should be enough time to sway Harper’s mindset about him. If not, he could always use her washing machine and stay a little longer.

After getting dressed into shorts and a cream and gold T-shirt, he went into her kitchen and filled an electric kettle with water, then flicked it on before he searched her pantry for coffee. He found a jar of instant, his brow furrowing.

Not because of the cheap coffee. He couldn’t help but notice how very little of anything else she had in stock. Five cans of cat food, a small bag of flour, salt and pepper, some potatoes and onions in a basket, a can of pineapple pieces and a tin of apricot nectar.
