“I’ve been informed that we have a new hire onboard. Welcome, Vivienne.” He pauses to allow for a round of applause. A sinister smile forms on his lips, but I doubt anyone can see his true contempt for me. “Let’s make sure she is acquainted with our superior customer service and unmatched quality standards. We set sail at first light.”
Once dismissed, everyone leaves the boardroom feeling motivated, ready to put forward their best efforts to make this voyage a success. As I exit the boardroom, my heart rate is steady, and my mind is focused on my training that starts tomorrow morning. Kassius has managed to put on the perfect facade, but I know who he really is beneath all that charm and charisma—an evil bully who managed to emerge from poverty. As long as he stays the hell away from me, his cover is safe. I just want to do my job and collect my five grand at the end of this.
Head down, lost in thought, I collide into a solid figure in front of me.
“Watch where you’re going, broke beauty queen,” Kassius tsks, obviously annoyed. He lifts his right foot and wipes the smudge from his shoe that I just caused.
“Sorry,” I mumble.
“Not sorry as you’re going to be,” he hints cryptically, before leaving me to ponder his threat.
Malevolent promise lingers in his wake. I’m fucked!
