Gabriel didn’t say anything or move. She couldn’t sever the line of her gaze from him, even if she tried.
Emma continued her ascent up his body to his neck, then the sheer force of bravery pushed her a step closer until their bodies pressed against one another.
His jaw ticked, and when he furrowed his brow, dominance stirred behind his eyes in the most pleasant of ways. “Are you sure you know what you are doing, Emma?” His voice graveled with a low rumble of a growl from his chest.
She swallowed and prayed what she was about to do was the right decision. It felt right and not because a man has never looked at her the way Gabriel was, and not because she hasn’t had seriously good sex in a while, either.
But they would be more than a casual fling. This was mates coming together, sealing everything between them… forever.
It was a lot to consider, but it also wasn’t. This was right, and this was what she wanted.
“Yes,” she whispered and tugged on his neck. She didn’t have to pull hard, Gabriel’s lips were on hers the second she confirmed how she felt.
He wrapped his arms around her body and, in doing so, forced her to bend back to succumb to his height. Then he slid one of his hands up her back and cradled the back of her head. He held her as if she were a mere porcelain doll, but she wanted more, needed more.
“Gabriel,” she whispered against his lips. “I promise, you won’t break me.”
His lips pulled in a sly grin, and he mumbled, “Good,” against her mouth. Fisting his hand in her hair, he tightened his hold on her body, followed by a guttural groan. “Mine.”
“Holy fuck,” she whimpered and held on for dear life because this night just took a surprising turn, and she couldn’t wait to see what Gabriel might do or say next.
“Too much,” he asked and pulled away just enough to look into her eyes.
“Are you kidding me? Don’t fucking stop,” she demanded.
Gabriel chuckled and lifted her against his body. “As much as I want to take you here and now, you deserve more than this.”
She glanced around the darkness of the woods and nibbled on her lips. As much as she wanted to say, “I don’t give a fuck,” she also loved him for being considerate enough to not get sand in their bodily areas. She nodded. “What do you have in mind?”
CHAPTER FIVE
Emma screamed and held onto Gabriel. Her chest rose and fell, and she buried her face in his upper body to not see what or how he moved them from one place to the other so quickly.
“You’re safe, I promise,” he told her.
“You didn’t tell me we were going to disappear from one spot to reappear in another in a snap,” she scolded. “You could have warned me.”
He grinned. “You asked me what I had in mind. We’re in my home, away from everything and everyone.”
Emma still hadn’t moved from her clenched form. She opened one eye, then the other. Slowly taking a step back, what she found felt like a log cabin, but it wasn’t made of wood. The home was made of some other substance. It was similar to trees, but the look was that of stone.
She left his side and made her way over to one of the walls and touched it. “What is this?”
“It’s material found in the mountain here. We use it to build our homes. It’s durable and withstands many of the storms that come through, even fire.”
She took a moment to look around. Gabriel’s home was a total bachelor pad. From no pictures on the walls to bare essentials of furniture, she went from the den to what would be the kitchen.
“Can I get you something to drink,” he asked.
“Umm, water? Wine? What do you have?” She found his sink, but there was no refrigerator. She furrowed her brows at what might be the stove. “Do you cook on this?”
“One would if one cooked, I suppose,” he answered and handed over a glass of red wine.
“You don’t cook?” She accepted it and sipped the drink, expecting it to be dry like most red wines, but it wasn’t. It was fruity, sweet, and refreshing. It was delicious. “Wow, this is good.”
He smiled. “I made it myself. Glad you like it. And no, I don’t cook.”
She tilted her head, curious. “How do you prepare meals?”
