Drunk on euphoria, she mused, “Mmhmm. But why did you bite me?”

“I didn’t bite you, my love. I marked you.”

Her eyes opened, and she stared into the darkness. “What does that mean?”

“It means you are forever bound to me and me to you. No man will dare touch you, knowing you’re spoken for unless they kill me first.”

Curious, she turned over in his embrace to face him. “Does this go both ways?”

“How do you mean?”

She grinned. “Do I get to mark you as well?”

He chuckled. “Me marking you does mark me, but if you’d like to bite me anyway.” He pointed to his neck where it meets the shoulder. “I’m partial to this area right here.”

She shook her head. “Stop.” She grinned and nestled into his chest. Not wanting to think about what’s next or tomorrow, or whatever this darkness is that’s looming over the kingdom.

“What’s on our agenda for tomorrow,” she whispered.

“If we’re fortunate, more of this.” He pressed a kiss upon her forehead. “However, tomorrow’s adventure will begin when we rise. Until then… He pushed her onto her back and moved between her legs. “More of this.”

She laughed and lifted her arms around his neck. “I’m good with that.”

He was right, tomorrow’s adventure would be here soon enough. She needed to live in the moment.

But she couldn’t help wanting to know what might emerge, waiting for her.

CHAPTER SIX

The air shimmered with otherworldly energy as Emma stood at the edge of the precipice, Gabriel by her side, her heart pounding in her chest. The time had come for the confrontation with the Shadow Eater that had plagued this world for centuries. She had trained, honing her newfound powers, and now she stood before the abyss, armed with determination.

Her army of allies had gathered behind them, a motley crew of beings from every corner of the supernatural realm. Light and dark sorcerers, all united in their shared purpose—to vanquish the darkness that threatened to consume their world.

Emma's gaze swept across the assembled forces and found familiar faces among the crowd. There was Selena, the powerful sorceress who had mentored her in the ways of magic, her eyes aflame with fierce determination. Next to her was her father, the High King, sword in hand and ready. On her other side stood Gabriel.

He looked at her for a moment. “I love you,” he whispered.

She knew it to be true; she felt it deep inside her. “I love you,” she returned.

“All the baby planning can be done when we’ve won,” her father stated. “Eyes on the enemy.”

She rolled her eyes and choked back a laugh. He was right, though, except the baby part. She wasn’t quite ready for that.

A hush fell over the gathering as Emma raised her hand, calling upon the elements to lend her their power. The wind picked up, whipping through her hair, and the ground beneath her feet seemed to vibrate with anticipation. She closed her eyes and felt the energy surge through her, filling her with a sense of purpose and resolve.

Gabriel's hand found hers, his touch grounding her in the midst of the storm. "Are you ready,” he asked, his voice steady despite the tension in the air.

Emma nodded, her voice resolute. "We've come too far to turn back now. It's time to end this."

As one, the army surged forward, their battle cries piercing the night. Emma led the charge, her powers blazing around her, a beacon of light against the encroaching darkness. The clash of supernatural forces echoed through the night as allies and enemies fought in a symphony of chaos.

Emma's gaze locked onto the ancient evil, a creature of nightmares, towering above the battlefield. Its eyes glowed with an unholy light, and its twisted form seemed to shift and contort with each passing moment. It unleashed a torrent of dark energy, but Emma stood her ground, channeling her power to form a shield that deflected the attack.

"Emma, you can do this!" Gabriel's voice rang out, his sword slashing through the air, his movements a dance of deadly grace.

With each step, Emma felt the weight of the world on her shoulders, but she refused to let it crush her. She drew upon the strength of her allies, their unwavering faith in her fueling her resolve. Her power surged, growing stronger with each passing moment until it consumed her entirely.

With a mighty roar, she unleashed her full strength upon the Shadow Eater. Beams of pure light shot from her fingertips, piercing through the darkness, searing the creature's flesh. It writhed in pain, its monstrous form faltered for a moment.
