I woke up naked and curled under the covers. I rolled over and reached for Charlie, not finding him. I sat up, looking around when Charlie appeared in the doorway of the balcony. “Good morning.” Charlie greeted me.
“Good morning.”
“I took it upon myself to order you some breakfast.”
“Thank you. What time is it?” I asked as I looked around.
“Nine a.m. When do you need to be at work?”
“Not until this afternoon which gives us more time together.” I answered.
“Good. We have to be checked out by eleven but I figured we could take our time getting back to Sweetclover.”
“I like that idea.” I leaned forward and kissed Charlie again. There was a knock on the door.
Charlie gave me a quick kiss and headed to the door. He talked for a few moments before the door was shut. He wheeled a small silver cart into the room. The smell of eggs and bacon filled my senses. I stood and stretched before I headed to the bathroom. I grabbed the other robe from the back of the door and pulled it on. I wrapped it around me and headed back out to the room. Charlie had set up my plate of food and two cups of coffee outside on the balcony. I gave him a kiss before I sat down in one of the chairs and began to eat.
“Thank you.” I said around a bite.
Charlie sat down in the other chair and began to drink a cup of coffee.
“For what?”
“For breakfast. For asking me out even with the issues with Eddie.”
“I knew you would need to eat so that was easy. For the other part, I feel like I should say thank you for saying yes.” His words moved me. I had a plan to leave Sweetclover but how was I supposed to do that now? “What is it, Charlotte?”
“It’s nothing.”
I set my fork down and took a drink of my coffee. I sat back in the chair for a moment before I stood up. I looked out at the beauty of the mountain with the lush green that covered the side.
“What’s wrong?”
“When I said yes, I thought it was just going to be a date but we are more than that.”
Charlie was silent for a moment as he pulled me to him and forced me to face him.
