Eddie came down on top of me and began to pull at my dress. I reached as the panic rose inside of me, finding my purse and pulled one of the potions from it. I didn’t hesitate, smashed it on his head. Eddie collapsed on top of me and stopped moving as the sleep potion took a hold of him. I rolled him off of me and stared at his limp body for a moment. What had I done? I stood up, backing away from Eddie’s body. I opened the door, taking a step back, when a hand wrapped around my wrist as I stood there.

“AAHHHH!”

“It’s me!” Charlie reassured me as I turned around. “It’s me. You’re safe.”

I fought back the tears as I fell into his arms.

“He was trying…” My words failed me as I began to shake.

“It’s okay. It’s okay.”

I pulled back from Charlie and looked over my shoulder.

“He’s going to know… Everyone will! I’m not safe! Charlie…I need to... I need to…” I ranted.

Charlie took a hold of my face in both of his hands.

“Listen to me. We need to go. We cannot stay here.”

I began to cry as I processed what I needed to do.

“I...I…I need to get my money.”

“Charlotte…”

“No. I need to get it.”

I pulled away from him and stepped over Eddie’s body. I headed straight for my closet. I pulled the shoe box from my closet and grabbed the stack of cash before I shoved it in my purse. I pulled a small suitcase from the closet and began to toss clothes inside it. I made sure I had my new dress and two pairs of my heels.

“We have to go, Charlotte.”

I closed the case and pulled it off the bed. Charlie took the suitcase from me and grabbed my hand. We pulled the door shut as we headed for the car. There was no hesitation in our steps as we moved. Charlie threw my suitcase in the back seat. I climbed into the car and we were off, sped down the street.

“What happened, Charlotte?” Charlie asked.

It took me three tries to answer.

“Eddie showed up and tried to force himself on me.” Tears slid down my face.

Charlie growled as he drove. He was silent for a moment.

“Did you have any idea where you wanted to go?”

“East.”

Charlie was silent as he drove us.

“I need to make a stop and then we are leaving town.”

“What?”

“I need to get my own bag and money. From there, we will drive east until we find a place to set up.”

This male was willing to give up his life for me.

“Charlie…” I took a deep breath. “Are you sure you want to do this?”

“Yes. I want to be with you and I will not allow humans to harm you because of a man who was trying to hurt you. I love you, Charlotte.” His words stopped any response I had. We pulled up to a small house. It was painted cream-like in color with brown trim.
