“Charlie, the chance of me being able to survive…” I looked at my legs once more.

He looked at my body.

“There is another way.”

“What?”

“We could turn you.” Charlie suggested.

We were all taught to never cross that line. Witches were meant to be witches, not some other creation. Going through the transition would mean I was a monster, something unnatural.

The part of me who knew the stories of witches crossing that line said Charlie was crazy. The part that wanted to live and have the chance to have a life with the male I loved wanted me to say yes. I looked at Charlie as the pain seared through me. I could see the plea in his eyes. I was supposed to have more time with him. This was not how we were to end.

“Do it.”

Charlie only hesitated for a moment before he readjusted me to sit more in his lap. He struck my neck with force and began to drink from me. I felt as my heart began to pound in my chest. The feeling of cold spread through me, replacing the heat of the burns. It was just as painful but in another way. I felt my heart begin to skip a beat as it slowed down. Fear set in as dark spots filled my vision. Charlie pulled his lips from my neck and ripped his wrist open. He places his skin against my mouth.

“Drink from me.” he whispered.

I tried to do as he commanded me but couldn’t make my body do so. I felt his blood dripping into my mouth. The hot liquid tasted like a fine wine. His blood flowed down my throat and into my body. Heat once more spread through me but this time it felt like I was back in the flames. I screamed, lost in the pain until I passed out.

I awoke in the front seat of Charlie’s car as the sun began to rise. The rising sun painted the sky pink, orange, and red. I looked over to see Charlie in the driver seat. He glanced at me with a smile on his face. I looked down at my body, seeing my skin unmarred. I sat up feeling lightheaded.

“Hello Beautiful.” Charlie greeted me.

“Did I…” I was scared to even ask.

“You survived the transition which means you are now a hybrid.”

“What does that mean?” I asked.

“It means you are both witch and vampire.

“I have so many questions and I have no idea where to start.”

“I figured you would. Take your time.” Charlie reassured me.

My brain was working a mile a minute.

“Does that mean I live like a vampire now?”

“Depends. Do you have a craving for blood?”

I took stock in my body. There was a slight burn in my throat.

“I have a slight burning in my throat.”

“You probably will need to feed off blood but only a couple times a month at the most.” Charlie answered.

“What happened in Sweetclover?”

“As far as I know, the hellborns have taken control of the city.”

“What do we do now?”

Charlie smiled at me.
