I sighed with pleasure as he entered me, softly with his tongue, my wetness already apparent. As I arched upward, his other hand slipped beneath my rear, and he truly began his journey inside me.

My body arched tighter, my cries growing louder, but Nyx was relentless. I dropped both hands to the sheets, worried that I might claw out his hair in my orgasm as my body quivered and twitched beneath him.

“My Little Muse,” he rasped, his breath so hot against my center. “You taste so sweet.”

“I want you inside me,” I moaned, and he chuckled. The sound of his belt unbuckling and pants falling to the floor barely met my ears as he continued to lap at me, coaxing yet another release from my body as I fell back in ecstasy.

“Please!” I gasped, almost unable to talk now. “I need you.”

“Yes, Maren,” he reassured me. “I’m coming.”

His hard body slid over mine, his thick shaft positioned between my legs as I struggled to cling to him. But I was like jelly in the aftermath. He entered me swiftly and fully, stealing my breath yet again, and in seconds, we were a rutting pile of gasping, sweating limbs as I again began to quake with another orgasm.

“Come with me, Little Muse,” Nyx whispered in my ear, and I nodded, closing my eyes as he swelled inside me.

An explosion erupted between us, my gasps barely overtaking his satisfied groans.

It never seemed to end for either of us, my nails digging deeply into Nyx’s back as he shuddered, heat rushing through me as if he’d poured his magic into me. But finally, it ended, andwe lay in a sweating mess together on the bed, trying desperately to catch our breaths.

Our faces inches from one another, Nyx pushed some of the damp strands of hair away from my face, his golden-green eyes set intently on mine. “My queen,” he sighed. “I can’t wait to marry you.”

I returned his smile, my heart fuller than it had ever been before.

“My king,” I replied. “I can’t wait to start our whole lives together. For real.”

Epilogue

MAREN

Three Years Later

“Nyx?” I called, my dress swirling around my bare ankles as I ambled through the courtyard. “Lucian?”

A rustling in the bushes made me swallow a smile, and I held the silver tray in my hands slightly firmer as I anticipated my toddler son’s “surprise” attack.

“Rawr!” Lucian bellowed, jumping out of the shrubs, and I stepped back with a shriek of terror.

“Oh! You scared me, you big, terrifying wolf!”

“Mama, it’s me. Lucian,” he babbled, pointing at himself as his father emerged behind him in his wolf body. “Wolfie!”

“Yes,” I agreed, setting the tray of lemonade down on the terrace table for my husband and son to enjoy, as I sprawled on a lounger. I was particularly tired today, the day’s tasks wearing me out more than usual.

“You all right?” Nyx asked me astutely, eying me from his spot now that he had shifted back into his fae form.

“Sure,” I agreed, sitting forward, a lock of dark hair spilling out from my loose bun. My hair had grown much longer overthe past few years, a style that many queens seemed to favor. Nyx liked to tease me about how well I’d adjusted to my role of queenhood, despite my certainty that I’d never quite fit in.

“Are you not sleeping well, Little Muse?” Nyx asked worriedly. “You look a little tired. Pale.”

I waved him away dismissively, like he was a fly buzzing around my face. “I’m not the one who stayed up with the new minister playing poker all night,” I teased him. “Don’t you get on me about not sleeping.”

He laughed. “I like that one,” he told me earnestly. “It’s so good to have fresh blood in the cabinet.”

My eyes turned toward my young son at the mention of babies, and I beamed admiringly at the handsome fae he’d grown to be. He looked so much like his father, with thick, dark hair and a lighter sepia tone. But he had my eyes and certainly more my sense of spirit.

“Don’t wander too far, Lucian,” I warned him.

“No, Mama,” he agreed without turning or stopping. His personal guard stayed close, however, and I didn’t need to worry.
