“Why drag me into it?” Nyx growled.

“Because…” I sighed. “You have half siblings.”

His jaw dropped, but no words came out of his mouth. I wrapped my hand around his chin and kissed him. “So now you have to decide what you want to do,” I added. “You can pretend you never saw that letter and keep going on imagining your father is dead. Or we could plan a trip to Katyne and introduce your sons to their grandfather and uncle and aunt.”

Dazed, Nyx continued to stare at me. “I don’t even know what to say.”

“I don’t know what I would say, either,” I admitted. “It’s a lot.”

He slumped against the car seat and stared at the roof, the wheels of his mind turning. I reached for his hand, and before he could speak again, there was a rap on the window of the SUV. I rolled down the window and peered out at the guard in mild annoyance.

“Pardon me, Luna. Your sons are looking for you. They’re kicking up quite a ruckus inside.”

I grimaced and glanced at Nyx.

“Go,” he encouraged. “I’m all right.”

I turned to the guard. “Bring them here, please.”

“As you wish, Luna.”

The window rolled back up, and I turned back to my husband.

“Of all the scenarios pertaining to your father, this was possibly the best one I could imagine,” I offered brightly.

Nyx scoffed. “Really?”

I nodded. “Really. He’s not dead. He hasn’t turned to dark magic. He isn’t coming here demanding his throne back. He’s out there, living his life with someone who loves him as much as you love me. He had two children, children that are your blood, your children’s blood, family.”

The corners of Nyx’s mouth twitched, and for a moment, he merely stared at me. Suddenly, he seized me in a huge hug, knocking me down on the backseat as I squealed.

“How do you do that?” he rasped, raining kisses all over my face and neck.

“Do what?” I laughed.

“Always manage to find a silver lining in the darkest cloud?”

I smiled and pulled him into a tender kiss as the door opened behind our heads. Nyx pushed his face up as our sons clamored.

“I want snuggles, too!” Lucian yelled, jumping inside.

“Snuggles!” Jessup conceded as the guard lifted him into the back and closed the door quickly before the lingering paparazzi could sneak any more pictures.

Nyx enveloped us all in his massive arms, holding us tightly, his love for us insurmountable at that moment.

“Hey, boys,” he said when everyone had calmed down.

“Yes, Papa?” they chorused.

“Have I ever told you about your grandfather, King Lucius?”

Both boys shook their heads, and my heart soared as I realized my husband had made his decision.

“Then we’ll have lots to talk about on our plane ride,” Nyx replied, ruffling their heads.

“Where are we going, Papa?” Lucian asked, tucking himself under Nyx’s arm.

“We’re going to meet your family, Luce. Our family.”
