“Go to your room. Lock the door and stay there.”
My eyes went wide. Who had been on the other end of the phone call?
“Enzo?” I asked as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and moved toward the door.
He turned me to him. “I need to clean up your mess. Do not open your door. Aldo and I both have keys to your room.” He opened the door to the study and then stopped. “Serafina, do not disobey me, or the punishment I just gave you will seem like a caress.” He pinched my chin between his thumb and forefinger.
“I’ll be good.”
He cracked a smile. “Good girl.”
I headed to the stairs, pulling his jacket around me. What had I done?

What the fuck had I done? I closed my study door after making sure Sera walked in the right direction—away from the drawing room. It only took me a minute to grab my holster, slip it on, and make sure I had bullets in my clip. Moreno wasn’t here for a social call. I couldn’t think about the fact I just fucked my beautiful stepsister on my desk, because I had to go make peace with a monster I wanted more than anything to put down instead. One deep breath and I headed to the drawing room, hoping Sera listened to me and stayed in her room.
Aldo stood at the doorway to the drawing room, shaking his head when he saw me. He opened the door and followed me in. I had other soldiers on standby if we needed them.
“Dante, what brings you this way? Party over so soon?” I walked over to the bar and poured myself a bourbon. Holding up the bottle, I cocked my head, offering my guests one. I tried not to smile at the sight of Tony sitting on the couch, holding his side, the black eye I gave him blooming nicely. Tony was in no condition to fight, but Dante most likely had a side arm and another on his ankle. Dante’s right hand would also be packing.
“Lorenzo, I would like to speak to your father,” he growled.
“He’s in Italy. You know that. He’ll be here for the wedding.” I swirled my amber liquid before I took a sip and strolled to the middle of the room.
Moreno stormed over and grabbed my collar, pulling me to him. Aldo’s hand went over his gun, but I motioned him to stand down, knowing we had to keep our calm. “You stupid bastard. You come into my home and attack my son? I should take care of you right here, right now.”
“Moreno, you do not want to do this. What would my dad say? The other families?” I smirked, forcing myself not to reach for my gun.
He released me. “I want the girl as retribution.”
I straightened my collar. “No.”
He growled. “Your father?—”
“Is very aware that your son tried to take advantage of my sister.”
Tony tried to stand up, but instantly dropped back on the couch, wincing. “I did not, you fucking asshole.”
Dante snapped around. “Shut up.” He gestured at his henchman. “Get him out of here.”
“She fucking stabbed me. We should have taken care of her along with her old man.” No wonder they never let him speak for the family. He was a fucking idiot and just confirmed what I’d known all along—the Morenos had been behind the hit on the Rosetta family.
“Shut the fuck up and go get in the damn car.” Dante Moreno turned red and looked as if he might explode.
Tony flipped me off as he was dragged out of the room. Aldo followed, clearly hesitant to leave me in the room alone with Dante.
“You stupid boy. You don’t know what you’ve done. I am not one to be crossed.” He clenched his jaw.
“Is that what happened to the Rosetta family? They crossed you?” Oh, the families would be pissed. We had been told to tread lightly, but with Tony’s little outburst, I was done.
Shock flashed across his face before his mask went back up. “Tell your father I expect him to make this right. We will be taking your sister’s hand as payment.” He turned and headed to the door, ignoring what his son had just said.
“He’s going to tell you the same thing. The answer is no.”
He paused in the doorway and chuckled. “We will see.” He pushed past a returning Aldo, and I pulled my gun from its holster. Aldo placed his hand over mine, shaking his head.
