Karli returned with our drinks and a basket of bread and took our orders. Phil chose lobster fra divolo for his main course and he also ordered the appetizers.

“So tell me about yourself, Chloe Walsh,” he said when she left.

“What do you want to know?”

“Anything. The only facts I know about you are you’re beautiful, you have great reflexes, and you have at least one sibling.”

That’s the second time he’s called me beautiful in the span of a half hour. A girl could get used to this.

“Thank you,” I said. “As for the reflexes, I played softball through college and still throw with Jeremy sometimes. I think I just got lucky catching that frozen rope you hit. A right place, right time kind of thing.”

“I watched the replay at least ten times and you actively played that ball. It’s not like you were just sitting there and it landed in your glove.”

I shrugged, not sure what to say. However I caught it, I’m glad I did because it’s the reason I’m sitting here with this man tonight.

“As for the sibling, I do have one, or rather I did.” He frowned over his bottle as he took a drink. “Karen is my sister-in-law. She was married to my brother Jason. He was killed in a car accident seven years ago.”

“Oh wow, I’m so sorry. I had no idea. You and Karen look so much alike and I know you’re Jeremy’s aunt so I just assumed.”

“It’s fine.” I took a sip of sangria. “Mmm, this is really good,” I said, then took another before setting my glass down. “My mom died when I was in high school and my dad remarried and moved to Texas when I was in college. For the past fifteen years, I worked as a market analyst for a big corporation I’d rather not name and I spent seventy-five percent of my life on the road. I got laid off four months ago and two months ago decided I didn’t want to live in St. Pete full-time so I moved here to be closer to Jeremy and Karen.” I took a deep breath and smiled. “I think that’s it. How about you?”

Chapter 4

Phil

I never believed in love at first sight, but after sharing one meal with Chloe Walsh, I’m pretty sure I’m in something with her. She’s smart, funny, and charming, not to mention sexy as hell. I’ve never had this much fun with a woman before and it’s very refreshing.

“You said you have three siblings?” I nodded. “Are you the oldest? Youngest?”

“Technically the youngest.”

“Technically?”

“My brother Paul and I are twins and he’s three minutes older.”

Her eyes widened. “There are two of you?”

“Yep.”

“Holy hell,” she said. “Does he play baseball too?”

“No, he teaches high school math.”

“Those poor teenage girls. They must be crushing hard.”

“You’re good for my ego, you know that?”

“I’m just stating facts,” she said, then pushed her plate away and sat back in her seat. “That was so good. Thank you.”

“Did you want dessert?”

“I couldn’t eat another bite.” She wrinkled her nose. “Besides, I’ve been testing recipes so I’m sick of sweets at the moment.”

“That’s an occupational hazard, I guess.”

“I guess. I’ll let you know once the bakery actually opens.”

“When’s that going to be?”
