“Here comes your girl, bro.” Fletch grins, pointing to Paris as she jumps the barrier and rushes out onto the field. The guys lower me to the ground, and I throw my helmet onto the turf, running to greet her.
She races toward me, leapsinto my arms, and wraps her legs around my hips when I catch her. All eyes are on us, the Jumbotron capturing our special moment.
“You did it,” she cries, grabbing my face and kissing me hard.
“Never doubted it.” I grin against her lips.
Reporters hover around asking questions, microphones in our face and cameras flashing. The crowd is chanting Magik, Paris, alternatively. I lower Paris to the ground as Coach approaches us, our teammates spread out through the end zone celebrating, cheering, and dancing.
“Coach.”
He takes my hand, congratulating me. With tears in his eyes, he pulls me in for a hug. “I’ve never been prouder, son. You earned this championship, taking every single challenge I threw at you, and you turned it into gold. I couldn’t think of anyone better to take care of my daughter.”
Choking back tears, I nod, slapping his back.
He turns to Paris and takes her in his arms. “Sweetheart, I love you. And there’s nobody in this world that will ever be better for you, or to you, than this kid here.”
I bow as he points at me, unable to express the words of gratitude so heavy on my heart. My teammates, my family, crash into me from all angles.
“Love in the End Zone,” a reporter states, filming the on-field celebrations.
Paris grins and runs into my arms. “This is where our story begins, baby,” I declare.
Happy tears stream down her face. “Our story began long ago, you just hadn’t caught on yet.”
But now I have, I’m never letting go.
