About Love at Home Plate

Baseball is about to sizzle…

When Camryn Holt joined the medical staff with the Mobile Bay Sharks baseball organization, falling for the team’s sexiest player was the last thing on her agenda. Unable to keep her eyes off Alec Rodgers, seems he’s determined to put himself in front of her every opportunity he can, making it harder and harder for her look away.

Not only does Alec Rodgers know baseball, but he also knows how to charm the ladies.

Knowing the newest nurse to the team’s staff should be off limits, Alec loves keeping Camryn Holt on the edge of her seat. Saying the right things at the right time, he’s determined to win her over. But when his biggest fear happens, everything about his career comes to a halt in the blink of an eye.

Will Camryn and Alec take things to the next level, or will this be the end to everything he’s worked so hard to achieve?

Chapter One

Camryn Holt looked down at her watch and panicked. She’d intended on leaving her apartment ten minutes ago to allow herself plenty of time with the extra traffic this afternoon, but here she was scrambling to get her things together. It didn’t help that she wasn’t exactly sure where she was supposed to be going either.

Well, she did know where she was going—she’d done her interview at the Mobile Bay Sharks Baseball Stadium—but the facility was huge, and she needed to make sure she got off at the right exit for staff parking.

She slid her feet into her sneakers, adjusted the team jersey they’d given her to wear, then took one last look at herself in the mirror. “Let’s do this,” she said aloud, and slipped her purse and duffel bag onto the crook of her arm. Then, taking a deep breath, she walked out to her car, ready for this new adventure that awaited her.

After graduating nursing school, she’d made a promise to herself to keep her options open and to not commit to the first job she was offered. There will be lots of opportunities. Just be patient and make sure it’s the right one for you, her best friend Julian had told her. That was easier said than done, considering her student loans would be coming due soon and that she was tired of eating frozen dinners all the time. Of course, she’d known before she started school that things were going to be tight for a while. Not to mention the sacrifices she’d have to make.

To think that a real paycheck was in her future had excited her more than she was willing to admit.

She’d gone on several interviews at a few of the local doctor’s offices, but unfortunately, she’d not found that connection for which she was hoping. Sure, the offers had been nice and the pay was about what she’d expected for her first job in the medical field, but something was still missing.

When one of her instructors had reached out to her about an internship with the Mobile Bay Sharks professional baseball team and how she’d be perfect for the position, she’d sort of shrugged it off. For one thing, she didn’t know squat about baseball, but most importantly, it was an internship, meaning she wouldn’t be paid.

As expected, there were perks that came with the position—she’d get her own team jersey to wear during games as well as her expenses taken care of when the team played out of town—but that hadn’t seemed like quite enough. But when they’d mentioned it could potentially lead to a full-time spot with the Sharks’ medical staff, the position had started to become a little more appealing.

Before she could make it to her car following her second interview, the head of HR was already calling to offer her the job.

“Yes,” she’d said, her voice quivering from the excitement. “I’d be honored to be a part of the team.”

Nervous didn’t even come close to describing the way she felt right now. In fact, if she could’ve pulled off the road, she probably would’ve done so just so she could throw up and hopefully feel better. Who would’ve thought she would be this anxious about starting a new job?

Julian hadn’t helped either when she’d stopped by last night to wish her well with her upcoming first day. “Those guys are so freaking hot. Do you know how lucky you are? You’ll get to see them in the locker room, probably with nothing but a towel on.”

“Stop it,” she’d told her best friend jokingly. “That’s the last thing I want to think about.”

Funny, how she hadn’t been able to get that off her mind all night long. And even this morning, while eating her breakfast, she’d found herself scrolling through the team’s social media pages. She needed to have some idea of who the guys were and what they looked like, right?

“Oh, God, no,” she muttered as she hit her breaks for the red light that had suddenly decided to change. Unfortunately, she wasn’t quick enough to grab her phone and it slid down to the floorboard on the passenger side of the car.

Too far for her to reach from the driver’s seat, she watched the Google Maps feature she’d been using disappear from the phone’s screen.

Instead of pulling over, she hoped she could rely on her memory to get her to the appropriate parking lot. Considering how many times she’d studied the map, something familiar was bound to jump out at her.
