I hold his stare, willing him to come over and whisk me away. Still in high school when Magik started at Ohio State, he’s never looked at me like an individual. To him and everybody else, I’m simply Coach Weston’s daughter. He’s definitely never acknowledged me as a woman.

Until now.

There’s a heat in his gaze which warms me, despite the night chill in the air. When he stalks across the yard, beer in hand, I can’t take my eyes off him.

“Here, put this on.” He offers me his jacket again, ignoring Bethany’s scowl. Without hesitating, I take the jacket and thread my arms through it. It hangs halfway down my thighs, but I don’t care.

“It looks good on you,” he whispers, so only I can hear. And I offer him my first genuine smile of the evening.

“Whoa, look out. Magik’s staking his claim on the Coach’s daughter,” Toby ribs on his way past, his eyes set on a group of girls by the pool.

“Fuck off, asshat.” Magik shoots him a warning glance.

“No foul, dude.” He grins back at him, not the least bit concerned by the annoyance etched into Magik’s features.

“Sorry about that,” he offers, glancing at me uncomfortably.

Avoiding his gaze, I shrug. “I’m used to it. ‘Everyone steer clear of the Coach’s daughter’,” I mimic, an icy tone to my words despite trying to hide my emotions.

Magik throws his arm around my shoulders and pulls me to him casually. “Want to get out of here, Paris Ann Weston?”

And just like that, a grin spreads across my face.

He knows my name.

“I thought you’d never ask!”

“Let’s go.” He takes my hand unashamedly and guides me through the house, out the front door, and into his car.

“Where are we going?” Buckled in next to Magik, I don’t care what we do, it’s enough getting away from the party.

“Oh, you wanted to go somewhere?” he mocks. “I was planning to drop you home and go out for a hamburger and fries alone.”

“Funny.” I poke my tongue at him and roll my eyes, making him laugh. “Seeing you mentioned a burger and fries, I could really go one of Misty’s shakes too.”

“Too?” He sneaks a glance at me when we pull up at the lights. “Meaning you’ll actually eat a burger and fries with me?”

“Only if you’re paying. And I want extra pickles.”

A chuckle rumbles out of him, his head shaking side to side.

“I’m surprised and super impressed.”

“Let me guess because I eat meat?” I internally groan at my choice of words and pray he ignores it. The idea of turning down a steak baffles me. Many of my friends claim they’re vegetarian in the presence of a guy, but when in the privacy of their own home, they’re quick to scoff down a T-Bone.

“Nah, I love a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to eat.”

Oh, I know what I want. Magik has been the star of my fantasies since my high school years.

And I’m starving for a taste of Eli Magik.

“Mmm,” I hum over another bite of my cheeseburger with extra pickles. “So damn good.”

“Fuck, Paris.” Magik groans, glancing around the diner. “Why you gotta make eating sound so sexy.”

Grinning, I bat my eyelids at him. “I’m not apologizing for being vocal when enjoying myself.”
