“Told him what?” When I didn’t answer, he pushed off the counter and stalked toward me. He twisted a piece of my hair around his finger then watched as it slid away. He let his finger trail into the jacket and down the collar of my shirt. “Ivy?” His tone had a bite to it. “Told him what?” His hand raised my chin, so I’d look at him straight on.

“That I was also interested in someone else.” His gaze moved to my lips, and I felt a pull deep down in my stomach.

“And what did he say?” He tugged at my bottom lip, and I fought to close my eyes.

“He said he wanted a fighting chance,” I lowered my voice, “so we’re going out Monday.”

“Monday?” His hand fell away.

“Mm.”

“That’s ambitious.”

“He knows what he wants.” I shrugged. Ty needed a reality check that if he wanted me, he needed to step up and decide. “It’s sexy.”

“I’m protective, Ivy.” His hand glided around my neck. “I don’t have a right to be, but I am.”

If any other man had said that, I’d flip him off and leave. I didn’t do games. But with Ty, it was different. I wanted him to crave me just as much as I did him. The sexual tension between us was fun and exciting. It helped turn off all the crap that had come my way. Crap I still hid from. I knew Frank’s phone call was coming soon, but right now, with the hungry expression on Ty’s face, I didn’t care.

“Maybe he’s protective, too?” I challenged and his expression darkened.

“Not like me,” he promised. “But, if you’re giving him a chance, I’m getting one, too.” He grabbed my head and caught my lips before I could think. His were strong and commanded the kiss. He tasted like mint with a hint of scotch. I molded my body to his as he pulled me tight against him. His tongue danced with mine, and I moaned when one of his hands moved from my neck to my bottom, giving it a good squeeze.

“Ty,” I pulled away, “what if someone comes?”

“Then they see us.” He backed me up to a counter full of weapons. Using his arm, he slid some aside as his lips found my throat.

“Don’t you have to ship out?”

“Ivy,” he pulled back, “I watched you on a date with some asshole who had no idea who he was sitting across from.” He lifted me and sat me on the smooth stone counter. “It took everything in me not to tear him apart in the parking lot.” He spread my legs and pushed up my skirt as he moved between them. “Then I find out someone else caught your attention.” He gripped the backs of my knees and pulled me closer. He adjusted the coat to give us some privacy. My panties were soaked through, and he seemed to like it, by the way he groaned when he brushed over them.

With his fingers, he pressed and gently massaged the very spot that ached for attention. I leaned back and sighed with relief. We were both weak around one another. We knew what we needed but also didn’t want to move toward it too quickly. Savoring each other’s need.

“If I’m leaving,” he used his free hand to unhook my buttons, exposing my bra, “you’re going to remember me until I get back.” His fingers moved faster over the thin fabric and heightened my arousal.

“And what about you?” I outlined his erection with my finger, and he let out a strangled breath.

“I have this memory of you in my jacket, my fingers deep inside you, soaking wet, building toward a climax that I made happen.” I tried to think straight as he pushed aside the fabric and slipped a finger inside me.

“Would Demi be all right with your fingers inside another woman?”

“I’ve never wanted her the way I want you.” He pushed another finger in, and then a third. “I get hard the moment I think of you.” My eyes rolled back at the delicious fullness.

I had never been emotionally connected to someone who was in such a dangerous profession. I always played it safe and stuck to the nine-to-fivers in suits. The thoughts that suddenly intruded were scary, and I had to push them aside to focus on the moment.

“Ty…” I grabbed his arm as he pulled me in closer. His teeth grazed my neck, then he drew in my skin. My orgasm built as I rocked against his hand, my breasts swelled, and my stomach coiled. His skilled fingers drove me wild, and all I could do was take it.

“When you’re on your date, remember this feeling and how I don’t give up on something I want.” He pinched my nipple, and I lost it. I came. He kissed me through it. Not once did he break his rhythm. His hot breath brushed across my face as he huffed. “It physically hurts how much I want you, Ivy.” I tried to catch my breath while my body hummed. “Every inch of me is tearing apart at the seams.” I rested my head on his chest and breathed him in, knowing I felt the same way. “But once I get inside you, I won’t be able to stop and—”

“Ten minutes, boys!” John shouted.

“Why?” I cried at the terrible timing these people had. I squeezed my eyes shut and willed my body upright. I pushed his hands away quickly and went to hop down, but he stopped me. He looked down at me and felt the fabric of my shirt.

“Don’t wear silk on your date.”

“Ty, that’s ninety-five percent of my clothes.” I chuckled. “The rest is workout gear.”

“Please.” He gave me a sardonic look. “I know what it does to me and, therefore, what it’ll do to him.” That caught me off guard.
