“Oh, Ty,” she shook her head, “I’m so sorry to hear that.”

“Yeah, I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock, too. Apparently, he tossed his gun, told the others it was a local who took him out, and because the Taliban arrived just then, I couldn’t gather any evidence or even get Brown’s body out. I had to leave him there. It’s just my word against his now.” I cleared my throat. “I saw him toss it, too. I just didn’t register what was happening in the moment.”

“That guy needs some major psychological help.”

“Yeah, or something.” I put my face close to hers so I could see her eyes. “His name is Hill, but you know him by Carson.”

Her brows pinched in confusion, then her eyes widened, and she moved to her knees. Her hands covered her mouth as she let out a gasp. “What the hell?”

“He killed one of my men, one of my buddies, and then he went after you.” I tucked a hand behind my head. “Now you know why I punched him.”

“Jesus, Ty,” she dropped her hands, “if I had known that, I would’ve helped you take him out.”

“His time is coming,” I promised her.

“But why me? He doesn’t even know me.”

“Because I had my hands on you at Camp Green. One of his friends was visiting when we were there and must have told Hill. Doesn’t take much to Google a photo, name, or anything anymore, especially when you have access at a base.” Her face fell, and I cursed as I realized what I’d said and what it could mean.

“So, it’s that easy to find me?”

“Not with me around.” I threaded my fingers through hers.

“I’m sorry, Ty. I honestly had no idea who he was.”

“I know that. You couldn’t have,” I assured her, “but it stung like a bitch seeing him with you.”

“I’m serious when I said nothing happened.”

“I know.” I pulled her back down to snuggle in. “It’s over with now.” That was a lie, but she didn’t need to carry anything else. I’d deal with Hill myself.

Morning came all too early. The alarm on my phone screamed at me, but the half-naked woman draped over my chest made it nearly impossible to get up.

I ran my hand down her back and cupped her butt, which in turn granted me a sleepy moan.

“I need to go,” I muttered and was pleased to see the storm was tapering off.

“’Kay.” She didn’t move.

“You’re not making this easy.” I chuckled and tucked her harder into my side.

“Mm,” she moaned again.

“I have to train in slippery wet terrain today, ten miles up the side of a mountain and then back down again. So, you can see my problem right now. How hard this is.”

She chuckled and slid her hand over my stomach then wrapped it around my erection. “You’re hard.” She leaned her head back to see me, and her eyes told me she was up to no good.

A knock at the door made us both go still.

“Ivy, it’s Savi. Are you in there?”

Ivy sat up and reached for her robe. She hopped off the bed then glanced at me before she opened the door.

“Morning.” Savannah handed her something. “We heard you didn’t have a great day yesterday, so Sloane and I are taking you to town for a little girl time.”

What? No, she shouldn’t be leaving the house.

“I’ve got a mountain of paperwork, and I really should stay—”
