“I’m with ya. That fucker is a loose cannon. I heard he tried to fuck with Kenna.” I squinted at him. “Yeah, Kenna.” He decided to elaborate. “A few drinks in at Minnie’s, and she told the story. Tess has a knack for pulling shit out of people, too. I hear it was a good thing you were there.” He eyed me, and I wondered what else she’d shared.

“If she’d followed my orders in the first place and stayed put, she wouldn’t have been in that situation.”

“Have you ever wondered why Minnie, Tess, and Kenna are such great friends?” he asked and looked at me with a wry look. “It’s ’cause they’re all the same, man. Fuckin’ feisty, fearless as hell, and damn sexy. It’s where wet dreams come from.” He shook his head. “It’s a scientific fact, Grim, trust me.” He grinned and rubbed his crotch.

“The shit you share.” I laughed and felt some of the tension ease in my neck.

“Nah, it’s the shit I don’t share that’s really good, like what Kenna’s really up to at Minnie’s.”

“Meaning?” That caught my attention.

“Grim,” Leo was behind us holding some papers, “a quick word?” He nodded at Brick.

“I’ll be back.”

“Yeah, sure.” Rail inhaled deeply and waved me off.

“First, the crew didn’t show up at the hotel, and now the electricians are sayin’ there’s an unexpected problem with supplies.” Leo showed me an email he had printed off. “What the hell’s going on?”

I snatched the paperwork from him and read the bullshit excuse.

“Someone’s fucking with me, and I don’t think it’s Alina Li.” I ripped open the door and headed for the elevator with the paperwork jammed in my fist. I slapped my keycard to the panel and cursed every second it took to reach the twentieth floor. The moment the doors opened I heard the cheering. “What the hell!”

The security guards gave me a nod as I rushed down the hall and flew into the office. Cameron and my father held up their drinks.

“Grim!” my father called. “Come, son, and toast with us.”

“What’s going on?”

“Kenna landed Sonny Conti!”

The air was sucked out of the room as I stood and stared at them. Anger flowed down through me like thick molasses, and I could feel my adrenaline rush to mix with it.

“And why are you so happy?” I glanced at Cameron. He looked as excited as Dad.

“Because he signed me on as his lawyer.”

This was a fucking nightmare.

“And when did this happen?”

“Sonny just left.” Cameron threw back his drink.

“Fuck.” I was about to say more when Dad handed me the contract.

“Look who else she brought on.”

Son of a bitch.

“Victor? Sonny’s father signed on, too?” I tried to keep my cool, but it was slipping fast. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

“Both!” Dad cupped his mouth as he grinned. “I know how you feel about them, son, but this is huge. Victor can keep an eye on his son, and they can both spend their money in our casino. They’ve got a lot of friends with fat wallets.”

“Yeah, a lot of friends along with Solly D. We can’t sign off on the Chicago Outfit, Dad, no way!” I shook my head. “You know better than to play with those guys. They ran Chicago the way John Gotti ran New York. I trust Elio Capri, and he told us long ago to stay the hell away from them.”

“Calm down, son.” Cameron put his hand on my shoulder.

“Hand! Now!” I barked as I glared at him. It immediately fell away, and he stepped back.
