“LeeLee, down,” Mom gently scolded. I internally groaned at her humor. She’d used a spin-off name taken from Leal. I snagged him and held him up in the air in case he pissed on the paperwork, as he’d been known to pee around me. He whimpered and wiggled, and I put him down.

“Aw, come here, Lee.” Kenna scooped him up and cradled him to her chest. Lucky bugger. “Don’t worry. He only pretends to be scary.” She kissed his head. “We can take him.” She eyed me and smiled as she took him over to Mom, who apologized to the room.

“Are we going to start?” I cleared my throat and felt my erection grow at Kenna’s tight ass as she passed the mini pinscher back to Mom.

“Yes, let’s get everything out on the table.” Dad jumped in again. “Kenna, you called this meeting, so why don’t you start?”

“Thank you, Mr. Gates.” She nodded politely. “Grim,” it wasn’t lost on me she used my first name, “you and I need to set some ground rules.”

“We do?” I nearly laughed, but my mother’s expression made me swallow it down. I would never disrespect her, even if Kenna was way out in left field with her comment.

“Yes.” When she shifted, the fabric of her blouse pulled down, and I had a clear shot of the curve of her breast. I squeezed the pen I held hard enough to snap it. “I know you’re upset with me for signing Sonny and Victor –”

I cut her off. “You’re right, I am.”

“But, as I said to you yesterday, I’d been working hard to set up that deal for nearly five months. That morning when they came into the lobby, they came to find me?—”

“It’s a good thing they did, too—” Cameron butted in.

“Please.” Kenna cut him off in the same way he had her. He shook his head, pissed she’d spoken to him that way.

“They came to find me,” she repeated, “because Sonny was excited that his father decided to join him. They’d both signed the contract, the one I’d given Sonny earlier. The same contract your father handed me and asked me to get them to sign. It was business.”

“It was a bad business move,” I tossed at her.

“No, it wasn’t!” Cameron stepped in, and I glared at the man who I felt had zero business being mixed up in mine.

“Not your place, old man.” I banged my fist on the table and looked at Kenna. “It was a bad move to make.”

“Says you.” Her tone was sharp, and I fought not to snap back. “As far as them being dangerous, know that Morgan and I were already in conversation in the lobby when they approached me. I was ensuring that Morgan knew about the situation with Sonny.” A gasp from her father made her put up a hand. “Yes, because we’re such good friends, I wanted to share my concerns with him, and?—”

“You let one of those bikers in on a business deal!” Cameron shouted at her. “That’s private information. What the hell were you thinking? What if he said something to the wrong person? What if?—”

“Cameron!” she snapped, and his face went beet red. “This is my meeting. If you want to lose your shit, wait your turn.”

“Pardon me?” He stomped his foot and leaned forward in his chair as I rose to my feet. I saw red. “What did you just say to me?”

“Enough.” I raised my hand just as my father was about to step in. I also knew Morgan well. He was high up in the Devil’s Reach club, and like the rest of them, I knew he could be trusted with anything. I just hadn’t put it together how close he might be to Kenna. When I thought about it, though, it made sense. Kenna was close to Minnie and Tess, so of course she’d know most of the club members. They were good people. “I’ve warned you once before, Cameron. I’ll not remind you again.”

“You can’t speak to me like that!” Cameron said furiously.

“If you want to come at someone, come at me.”

“It’s okay.” Kenna tried to smooth things over, but it wasn’t going to work.

“You think you’re something else—” Cameron started again like the adolescent child he was.

“One,” I drilled my fist into the table and made everyone jump, “more fucking word out of your mouth and you’re done, Cameron.” I shot him a look of death. His temper was going to meet my fist in his jaw soon. He muttered something I chose to ignore because his phone suddenly rang loudly. How my father had done business with this man for as long as he had was beyond me.

“Maybe we should do this another time.” Kenna’s voice was low and calm.

“No, you go on.” I waved at Kenna, happy I was finally about to hear the truth of how things had gone down. The fact that I now knew she’d had Morgan there calmed my nerves a bit. He had quick hands and would have been discreet about it if he had to step in.

“Thanks for the permission.” She shot me a wry look, but I could see she was pleased her father was preoccupied. “Morgan wasn’t more than ten feet from me. I might be weaker than you physically,” she referenced our limo ride, “but I’m smart enough to have heard what you said.”

I tapped my fingers on the table while I mulled over her words. I glanced at Mom, who seemed to be impressed that I even continued to listen to her at this point. Dad had a shit-eating grin on his face as he lowered his phone. No doubt he had just filled Leo in on the meeting. That I was in a room with Kenna and neither of us had ripped each other’s throats out. Yet. The room went quiet for a moment.

“When?” Cameron’s voice came to us. He was in the far corner of the conference room with his phone to his ear. His body language had changed suddenly, and his voice had a different quality to it. “I guess I don’t have a choice, now do, I?” He sounded almost nervous, enough that Kenna glanced at him curiously.
