“No.” She ran her hands down her skirt as she shifted herself back to work mode, an asset I admired about her. “My father came to me for help.” I raised an eyebrow at that. We both knew it wasn’t something her father would normally do. She shrugged to show she got my point. “He asked me to get Trigger to meet with him. Said he had some sort of trouble but didn’t explain. I said no, but he insisted I do it.”

“I see.” I didn’t like that.

“Anyway, given that he’s never asked me for a favor like that before, I really want to give him this.”

“Any idea at all what it’s about?”

“I’m guessing something to do with a client.”

“So, you asked Trigger?”

“I did.”

“And?” I fiddled with my cufflinks as I tried to fathom what sort of trouble Cameron had gotten himself in that he needed help from Trigger.

“He said he’d do it as long as I let you know. He said because I was your employee.”

“And when is this meeting happening?” Fuck, something else to push into my calendar.

“It was yesterday morning.”

“Yesterday?” I dropped my arms and stared at her. “As in yester-the-fuck-day?”

“Yes.” She nodded.

“Why didn’t I know about this the moment Trigger knew?”

“Because after I asked him, I was coming to tell you, but I ran into Minnie?—”

“And?”

“And she needed me for a moment, and that’s when Salazar found me with one of his business friends and asked me to join them for a nightcap.”

“Is your phone broken? Did you go home with these men and spend all of yesterday with them too?” Her face went angry.

“Look, I called you twice, you didn’t pick up. I figured anything to do with Trigger shouldn’t be left in a voicemail.” I remembered she’d called. Yesterday’s meeting was too important to be interrupted. “Yesterday got away from me. Minnie needed me to ID someone and?—”

“You don’t work for Minnie, Kenna,” I stood closer, “you work for me.”

“I know that.” She fisted her hands and took a deep breath. “Check your damn cameras. I spent a lot of time looking for you. I even spoke to your father.” She was angry now, and I tried to curb my own temper.

“I don’t like that Cameron asked Trigger for a favor.”

“Trigger’s a big boy. He could have said no.” Her eyes flashed, and I looked at my watch and wondered why my brother was late. “Are you done flipping out on me now?”

The elevator dinged, and Leo strolled in, completely missing the mood in the room.

“Hey, Kenna, what are you doing here?”

“Getting my ass handed to me like always,” she growled at him then seemed to gather herself. “How are you, Leo?”

“Stressed. We need to prepare for today’s meeting.”

“Well, I won’t keep you.” She turned to look at me. “It’s always a pleasure to even out the scoreboard, Grim. Fun as always.”

“It is,” I agreed and watched her ass as she headed toward the elevator. Leal stepped into my line of vision and her perky ass was replaced with his judgy glare.

Jesus.
