Great. Snow.

Yes, that was sarcasm.

But I’m cold.

And I don’t care if it’s pretty.

My fingers are aching, and my internal organs are starting to shiver.

That’s why my hand is shaking when I ring the doorbell. That’s the only reason.

I frown, fisting my fingers and praying that Mikayla’s home, that I have the right freaking house, that the disaster my life has become somehow has an out.

The handle clicks, and I hold my breath as the door swings open. It’s impossible to keep my gasp in check when a shirtless guy who looks like he’s from the cast of 300 opens the door.

Holy shit.

He’s carved from stone. Big, broad, and beautiful. It’s impossible not to gape at his pecs, the shape of his bronze muscles, and… yep, I’m pretty sure he’s got an eight-pack. Not six, eight.

Stop staring at him, Ray!

I glance at the ground. “Um… uh… hi.”

“Hey.” His voice is cheerful, relaxed, and it gives me the courage to check him out again.

I know I shouldn’t be ogling him and obsessing over his muscles, but those perfectly shaped ridges are making my belly dance. He’s gorgeous. Even his face is beautiful. All cut jaw and defined lines. He’s got this protective soldier look about him, and?—

Stop being attracted to this man! You’ve just left your boyfriend less than twenty-four-hours ago.

The thought of Theo makes my belly stop dancing. Instead, a tight fist forms beneath my rib cage as I battle memories of our fight last night.

Blinking to ward off any signs of how horrible it all was, I force a polite smile before looking to the safety of the ground again.

“Can I help you with something?” he asks.

“Maybe.” I rub my forehead, no doubt messing up my bangs before flicking them out of my eyes. “I’m looking for Mikayla Hyde. I think she lives here?”

“Oh yeah. She does.” This wide smile stretches across his face, and I can’t help drooping with relief. I’ve got the right house. Thank God.

“She’s not home right now.”

And there’s that fist in my stomach again.

“But you’re welcome to come in and wait for her.” He smiles again, and for a second, he comes off like a cheesy salesman, until I look into his eyes and sense a genuine kindness.

Although, I’ve been fooled before.

“I don’t think she’ll be too much longer. She’s out with?—”

“Ethan,” I murmur, this soft laugh coming out of me. It’s wooden and seriously lacks any humor. How can I ever laugh again?

I cross my arms and look over my shoulder, spotting my car on the road and wondering what the hell I’m supposed to do now. This guy is probably going to invite me in, but… do I go?

Can I trust him?

“So… do you want to come in and wait for her?” He steps aside, gesturing for me to walk past him. To enter Hockey House.

My heart rate spikes.
